how close to sailing can one book?

Does anyone know the length of time one needs to book in advance for a cruise. As in, can you book just a few days before the ship departs or is there a 10-14 (or something like that) day rule? Thanks in advancement.

I believe up to 3 Days prior to cruising since cruiselines have to "handover" their manifest to gov dept 72 hours prioir to sailing. However this does also depend on the Itin - some (like the Black Sea for example) may require more time for Visa requirements.

 

The other problem you might encounter with this kind of short notice is that many ships sail at capacity these days. They might still have cabins but because of all the extra beds may still be at max .capacity.

I happened on a great deal on GALAXY in January, and booked it 3 days prior to sailing. That's as close as I have EVER booked, and my agent said I had made it "under the wire." So I guess the other posters are right: 3 days is the latest you can book a cruise.
