I have read that the Dawn has a laundry room so I am assuming it has an iron???? BUT is it something that tends to be in high demand and am I better off taking my own travel iron??? And a safe - I am in an inside cabin on the 9th deck - will it have a safe or should I take a small lock box for my valuables - AND one more question (I know I'm being a pain!!!) do you consider a passport a valuable and should I keep that locked up or just my $$$ and jewellery, am I better off to take travellers checks than cash??? I thank you for any input as I am sure you can tell by now this is my FIRST cruise!!

There is no need to take an iron. Each self serve laundry room has 2 irons and 2 boards. I am sure you will find them free when you want them.

Definately put your passport in the safe which you will find in every room of the Dawn.

We don't take traverlers checks anywhere any more. We use cash and/or credit cards. When you are on the ship they take no cash anywhere except as tips.

You are going to love the Dawn. She is a wonderful ship.

Enjoy!

There are no bad questions.

If you need any advice look around this board or just ask away. I have found that people love to talk about their cruises. Most of us love to cruise and actually enjoy answering questions and hearing about other peoples cruises.

Keep your questions coming!!!!!

Just an FYI... Irons (including travel irons) are not allowed to be brought onboard by passengers, as it could create a fire hazard. This is a mandate by the U.S. Coast Guard.

True. Please don't bring your iron. You could bring a steamer though.

What I do is to put my clothes in the bathroom while I shower, If there are some small wrinkles (packing in carefully rolling your clothes avoids most wrinkles). If the wrikles are still there after the shower, I turn the shower to very hot for a few minutes. Usually, it's enough. If the wrinkles are too severe, you can use the iron in the laundry room or send them to be pressed.

I understand that no cash is used except for tipping, however for the casino, I assume you need cash. Do they have a purser that can cash travelers checks or do they have ATM's on board? Thank you. Sailing for the first time on 7/1.

You can charge your gambling to your cabin card. Then you can pay it off with Traveler's Cheques or your credit card at the end of the cruise. There's NO cash advance fee for this method. If you choose to use the ATM, then the charge applies.

Happy Sailing,

Monty

they have irons, washers and dryer in the guest launderette...your room steward can tell you where the closest one is...they also have detergent ;)

Just realized how OLD this post is (2006). Found one from 2008 that said all Laundry rooms have been removed and you must PAY for pressing/laundry services

Yes, no more self serve laundry on any of the NCL ships. Pay per piece or opt for the bag laundry special.

You may request the steward to bring an iron and board to your cabin. You'll get it for about an hour and they will come and collect it. There is no fee, but honestly, if you pack properly there shouldn't be a lot of wrinkles and many will just steam out if you hang it in the bathroom when you shower.:):)

Downey makes a spray wrinkle release that works quite well too.

I must have spent two hours in the self serve laundry room on my first cruise, which was the Dawn in 2007. I guess I had read too many brouchers, and seen too many pictures of all these perfect models in the advertising pieces back then.....

God am I thankful that NCL took the laundry rooms out.....who the heck needs to be stuck in there an a vacation.....

I've learned to roll on here, fold on here and even buy the right typed of silky materials that don't wrinkle much.......now I enjoy my vacations!!!!!

My husband always makes me iron.... So frankly on a cruise when his dress shirt needs ironing I tell him to send it out to be pressed, I'm on vacation! It's worth the few bucks to not hassle with it. Usually day one he sends off his shirts for formal nights to get a good press on them so they are set to go. Everything else the wrinkles tend to fall out or you can to the shower trick or wrinkle releaser.

We were on the Dawn in 2007 also and my kids changed clothes 5 times a day!! I spent one morning 1/2 way through a 12 day cruise doing laundry!! I was thankful for it at the time!! Kinda wish they still had them just incase!
