Happy Belated Birthday to my Canadian friends. I just absolutely love to visit Canada (been twice to Toronto and Southwest Ontario - hope to expand my area of visiting someday). Take care!

Since you probably don't check the Atkins thread the last few days have been HORRIBLE!!!
Got Alex off to camp on Sunday.. everything packed (well almost, left shampoo home but he figured it out and used soap for hair.. his hair is kind of funky now anyway so the "spa oatmeal" soap that I sent him worked out OK... stuff Mike had gotten from some hotel he stayed at). Quick drop off.. Mike was a bit teary-eyed driving back home. Libby was happy to be lonely-only for week with Dad (almost 8yo girl who LOVES shopping) starting camp. So off I go to check in on everyone (parents in 2 different rehabs) on Monday. Check on their house, get mail at Post office (still on hold) and try to get things in order for Mom's release on the 6th. She'll need someone living in house for release. I planned to be there for transition but can't take care of her (nor am able since I've got bad back and I need to get back to my family). Well on Weds. at 1PM while getting drawers somewhat organized (and finding jewelry that I took to my house for safe-keeping) I get a call from the camp nurse.. Alex hurt his finger on Tuesday evening.. took him to Dr. on Weds. and it's a sprain and he's fine.. I'm ok with it, say thanks and go about taking care of business. I finally get to gym (after not going for several days) and feel like accomplishing something when I get a call at 5PM from Mike saying that camp called and Alex BROKE his finger and he must get up there to take him to orthopeadist on Thusday AM ...well Mike has to pick up Elizabeth at camp at 5:30PM and he can't get to Alex in time... so he wants to know why they can't take him to MD. I'm still in New York and confused. I got to parents house and start getting packed for 2 1/2 hr ride back to home. The nurse says that the local doctor suggests that they cast his finger and then he could return to camp. I call the camp director to advise him and find out why they couldn't send him to 9:20AM appt. (since Mike has to be home at 8AM to get Libby on bus and then get to Alex (1+hr away) and pick up copies of x-rays at hospital and then back to appt. Well I realize I HAVE to go. Also ask about pulling him from camp and get a partial refund and director says "play it by ear" they'll do everything they can to make things pleasant to stay (plastic wrap his finger). Alex is already hysterical about leaving.. he wants to stay. I tell him he'll stay... even in cast. We get to dr. Alex is in a tight sleeved long sleeve shirt. Luckily I've got an extra t-shirt so I change and give him one to wear.. just to be prepared. Well doc. looks at X-ray.... says it doesn't look good and wants us to get a cat scan.. Alex will probably need 2 pins in finger.. he's getting scared hearing surgery... so off we go for scan. Back to office and realize we're given the wrong films for he goes by a verbal report.. things not good... surgery. He'll have his hand surgeon look and make appt. Well I want a second opinion so luckily I had him call our local pediatric orthopeadist and got an appt for Friday at noon (lucky since we've got a LONG holiday weekend). Willl make it short.. took another set of x-rays.. final outcome, will probably be able to splint it and see what happens, though he'll have his hand specialist make final decision. So that's where we're at... wait and see. Alex LOVED camp... all the counselors LOVED him begging me to find ANY way possible for either him to stay or come back for a part of the summer. SO now I wait...
Having fingers xssed that something good will happen and I take him w/me on Monday to get Mom set up in house and then back up here. Luckily Dad's doing ok in his rehab so it's one less thing to be concerned about.l
Hope you're enjoying your summer.

Oh my G-d, Carolyn. I held my breath reading your story. What can go wrong..does. The upside is that it can only get better! At least your Dad is doing well. Hope you find someone good to stay with your Mother. Alex will be O.K. But what a lousy thing for him.

My summer is rather uneventful. DH & I took a long walk this morning. We tired ourselves out so much, we fell asleep in the afternoon!!(Old fogeys!!) Tonight we are trying an Iranian restaurant that friends have recommended. The weather finally is summer-like.

Take care of all of you!
