sail7seas Posted July 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2006 Thanks, KK. I wonder if there is any consideration to change at least some of the menu. Some months ago, we had heard there would be changes but they haven't yet happened. I think they should leave the traditional steak choices but it might be time for new sides dishes and non-beef choices.
elmorejj Posted July 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2006 I agree. It is definitely time for some changes in the menu. I eat very little meat and the two fish dishes sometimes leave a lot to be desired! They never seem to be cooked correctly. Either too dry, or as in one instance, the halibut was still cold in the center, as if it had recently been thawed out and not cooked enough. There could also be a change in side dishes, the same things every time really get boring. Maybe an additional salad or two would be an improvement........jean:cool:
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 7, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted July 7, 2006 I remember this winter when we were all talking about how we had heard that there might be some changes in the Pinnacle menu and we all wrote what we would like to see changed. Now we know they can't change everything and add everything that we all wanted, BUT changes would really be nice. Don't think HAL read those threads. Krazy Kruizers Posted July 7, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted July 7, 2006 The $20 per person fee is just for the meal. If you order any cocktails before dinner , wine, or after dinner cordials, you pay for them. If you do order drinks, you will get 2 bills if you haven't pre-order the dinners before leaving on the cruise. One will be for the meals. The other will be for the drinks which will include a 15% gratuity.

mechcc Posted July 9, 2006 #10 Share Posted July 9, 2006 Also believe it's time for a change to the menu. Keep the favorites and discard the bottom three in each category for other choices. Personnally, I would love to see an onion soup as an appitizer and keep that volcano cake!
atcken Posted July 11, 2006 #11 Share Posted July 11, 2006 Can you make a reservation for the Pinnacle Grill prior to your cruise? And if so, how do you go about that? Thanks
sail7seas Posted July 11, 2006 #12 Share Posted July 11, 2006 You can call Ships Services in advance of boarding and book Pinnacle. The number is 800-541-1576. Have your cruise booking/confirmation number and your credit card at hand. They will charge the $20 pp to your credit card at that time rather than wait to charge it to your shipboard account as they would if you made the reservation after boarding. BasenjiMom Posted July 12, 2006 #13 Share Posted July 12, 2006 Just off an Alaskan trip aboard the Veendam. We participated in the Renewal of Vows ceremony, which included a dinner at the Pinnacle (celebrating our 25th). We were first time crusiers. We enjoyed the Pinnacle very much, received so much individual attention ( I was escorted to the restroom, is that standard????) and thought the food was wonderful, including the Anniversary cake. Nikolai even insisted on taking a couple of 'romantic' photos when he saw me try to get one of my husband and the cake. I realize if you've eaten there often the menu could get mundane, but to first timers, it was excellent. I swear, there were 7 people attending to us! AlohaPride Posted July 12, 2006 #14 Share Posted July 12, 2006 As the website isn't working (and I can't seem to find much on the Pinnacle Grill anyways), I had a few questions: 1) I heard about a wine tasting dinner at the Grill for something like $45 a person with wine selections WITH your dinner? Do I call the same number to make reservations for that? 2) How far out can I call and make a reservation? 3) Is it like regular dinner where it is all you can eat (I would love 2 sides of the Grilled Asparagus with Bearnaise Sauce). Thanks to RevNeal for providing the pictures on his website of the Pinnacle Grill, it looks DIVINE!
happy cruzer Posted August 7, 2006 #15 Share Posted August 7, 2006 Hi, I know I saw some of the details about the wine-included dinner somewhere but I lost them. Can someone answer AlohaPride and me??? Pretty please with sugar on top?:)
crystal808 Posted August 7, 2006 #16 Share Posted August 7, 2006 The wine/tasting menu is offered each evening, and a separate "reservation" isn't necessary. It is, I believe, $49 on top of the $20 Pinnacle charge. You can choose the a la carte menu, or the tasting menu. It is a set menu, with accompanying wines, with a choice of a seafood or meat (beef?) entree. While on the Noordam, I wound up having the tasting menu twice (in 10 days)!! :D You can certainly have as many side dishes as you wish. The food was excellent; the service superb. The maitre d' from the Oosterdam (Tom?) is now on the Noordam after a one-month vacation. He remembered me from Feb. and made sure I would be accommodated any evening I wished...and made good on it! Krazy Kruizers Posted August 7, 2006 Author #19 Share Posted August 7, 2006 Food & Wine Tasting Menu at the Pinnacle Yes, the ships are still offering this. Many people don't know about it even though the menu is posted outside the Pinnacle. The charge is $49 per person. So few people even do it that on the second week of the cruise, they actually set one night aside for people to join others for this special dinner. It was held on the second formal night at 7:30 (remember that I have mentioned in another post that the Mariner's Party was also on this night at 7 PM). RedmondCruiser Posted August 7, 2006 #21 Share Posted August 7, 2006 I will definitly have to try the $49 dinner on our upcoming cruise - sounds terrific. My all time favorite is still the Thai Chicken Soup. --- Celebrity had a salmon tartare with quail eggs - that was to die for so Ill be interested in HAL's version. We have always enjoyed our Pinnacle meals and look forward to them on each cruise.

tootiesmom Posted August 7, 2006 #23 Share Posted August 7, 2006 We will be going on the Westerdam in November and are interested in eating at the Pinnacle Grill. Is there a certain night that is better than others (ie: food not so good in the regular dining room) ? Thanks, tootiesmom
happy cruzer Posted August 25, 2006 #24 Share Posted August 25, 2006 Hi, Now I will be on HAL in NOv. so I have questions about the wine dinner in PG 1)Is it the same menu each night? 2)Is it the same menu on each ship? 3)Can you order other food from the the regular menu? For example, if you wanted to add another appetizer? Some of the sides? 4)How much of each wine do they pour? One glass? Is it a 4 oz pour or more? 5)Are the wines always Washington State? Big thanks for these details. I know we will enjoy the PG, what a treat when it was only $10 the first night.

For example, if you wanted to add another appetizer? Some of the sides? 4)How much of each wine do they pour? One glass? Is it a 4 oz pour or more? 5)Are the wines always Washington State? I'll take a stab at these: 1) The PG menu is the same each night, both regular and wine tasting menus. The only change might be the pre-appetizer "amuse"...it varied (slightly) the 2 nights I went to the PG on the Noordam in July. 2) I can't be sure; they are probably very similar from ship to ship; particularly the regular menu. 3) Attempting to substitute from the regular to the wine tasting menu would defeat the purpose of the wine tasting menu! As far as sides go, the entree on the tasting menu included any or all of the standard sides. 4) The "amuse" was served with a (full) glass of champagne. The remaining courses were almost-full glasses. Considering the number of courses, and the number of glasses of wine, I didn't really "need" to ask for refills, but in the past I think I've asked and received.... 5) To my knowledge, there were "some" WA state wines, but not exclusively. I believe there were also wines from CA and Australia served, as well. Could have been another area or 2 thrown in.... They were all very well-matched to the courses. I enjoyed each evening, and even had the wine tasting menu both nights! (It was a 10-day cruise) Hope this helps! Paul
