Rare uktog Posted July 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2006 I am really looking forward to this trip, and as I love at sea days I know I will not be bored. (after all I will have some relaxation to fit in!) However, in case I do get bored, what can I expect to be on offer on at sea days over and above the usual at sea activities say on a Baltic or Alaskan trip. Is it repetition of the same (more quizes and bingo) or what? Thanks
xtopher_66 Posted July 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2006 You can expect pretty much the same as on any other cruise with some activities that have a Hawaiian theme. On our cruise to Hawaii in March, we had a "Hawaiian Ambassador", Paki Allen who led many of the activities such as hula lessons, lei making classes, and lectures about Hawaii in the Celebrity theater. We enjoy the sea days, but after four in a row, we were ready to get off the ship for a while. I know you'll enjoy your cruise to Hawaii, we had a wonderful time. Lsimon Posted July 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2006 I really don't think the sea days were different from shorter Caribbean cruises we've taken. Other than a few Hawaiian themed events - lectures and crafts. Biggest difference is that we did more of the sea day events than we've done in the past. Even took a Photoshop course. I intended to take a few more (there is a series of 4 I think) but believe it or not I never seemed to have the time. I was nervous about being bored, but ended up thoroughly enjoying the sea days! Note that the first couple days out, and the last couple days back were a bit cool for the pool. I think this is common.
gracecarmo Posted July 24, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2006 We found lots of activities to occupy our time. However, we like to read, see movies, and in general just relax during the sea days. I was never bored, but my DH says he would prefer less sea days. We also took the QM2 and he was bored on that 6 day crossing, except for the Casino!!! I personally love the sea days, but they are not for everyone. We were on the RT Hawaii in Feb. on the Summit.
chumley Posted July 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2006 On our cruise to Hawaii this past December, we had bridge every sea day. There were 8-10 tables and a wonderful director ran the games. The group was very enjoyable. This was a nice surprise for me since the other cruises we've been on, there has been very little bridge. Of course if you don't play bridge, this won't matter too much to you! But there was plenty to do and although we were concerned with the nunmber of sea days, we loved every one of them and have already scheduled another Hawaii cruise just for this reason. Rare uktog Posted July 24, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Thanks - I am sure we will not be bored! I am glad to see we have the possibilities of themed activities; I have certainly enjoyed the delights of naturalist talks on the way to Alaska and the recent talks by George Jager on the Constellation in the Baltics. I doubt the time at sea will be too long for me as I need to unwind. The temperatures may be quite warm for us even on Day
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 24, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2006 We took a cruise to Hawaii in late March on Celebrity. We enjoyed the sea days. There were some really good lecturers on board and with all of the sea days it was nice because one lecturer in particular gave several lectures. In fact, on the last day he spent the entire time answering quesions. With so many sea days we also enjoyed the fact that if we missed something that we were intererested in on one day there was a chance we could catch it on another day. We also liked the fact that we began the cruise with the four sea days which gives you a great opportunity to enjoy the ship and then you have the five days in port to get off the ship each day to enjoy Hawaii but then you know that you have another four days on the return portion of the ship, to once again, take advantage of all the shiop has to offer. We thought it was a very nice cruise. Keith
Rare uktog Posted July 24, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Thanks Keith, sounds exactly like the cruise we are looking for. Who was the lecturer you found to be so good? I am assuming that the dining arrangements may even move to open seating on the port days and we will get back to being with our table companions on our return trip home. Usually I feel so down after our last port of call but for us we will have another 8 days of holiday before going home wihich will be great A
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 24, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 24, 2006 The lecturer that we enjoyed is Dr. Jerry Komfeld. He talked about a variety of items including eating heart healthy. He could explain items in a very easy to understand manner and really took the time to answer everyones questions and it was nice on his last lectgure that it was devoted to answering questions. For dinner, you will eat at your assigned table each evening regardless of whether you are at sea or in port. In addition to the main dining room, I highly recommend trying the specialty restaurant. We thought the food, service and overall ambience was outstanding. They also have a casual alternative dining area as well. Again, we really enjoyed the itinerary and the cruise. Ships R Great Posted July 24, 2006 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2006 Thanks so much for starting this thread. We love the sea days. 6 were not too many on a Transatlantic! I like that there will be Hawaiian themed activities. I can hardly wait for this cruise! And we have a thread with not one negative post. How refreshing! debjac Posted July 24, 2006 #11 Share Posted July 24, 2006 We've done the Hawaii cruise twice and love the sea days! I took advantage of some of the lectures, attended a few spa seminars (hair, make up, etc) and even learned how to spot fake gemstones. My husband saw a movie everyday. You will love the relaxing days.

Sea days are great for reading, lollling, napping, lolling, snacking, lolling, walking, lolling, gazing at the sea, lolling, people watching by the pool and did I mention lolling? Lolling, an ALL encompasing term, for not having to do anything structured. It's what I do best ;).
