Hotel Suggestions for Houston, TX...

:confused: Does anyone have good hotel suggestions for Houston Tx area?

We are only staying for 1 or maybe 2 nights in Houston then heading down to Galveston for our cruise. We would want a REASONABLY priced place. We don't need any fancy extras...just a clean, nice place to sleep/shower. We will be touring around Houston most of the day and night.

Ohhhhh and if you have any suggestions of great things to do/places to eat while in Houston (beside the Space Center--which we plan to tour), please suggest those also.

We stated at Extendedstay across from Nasa it was very clean and had a small kitchen. Also the LaQuinta at Hwy 146 7 Fairmont Pkwy. Laporte

If you are staying close to Nasa their are some good places to eat in Kemah along the boardwalk (east of Nasa). You can choose from Mexican, seafood, etc.

Try Tookies for the best burgers around . Nasa Rd.1 & Hwy 146 just before Kemah.

If touring NASA is part of your plans, you might just want to stay in the Clear Lake area. There are LOTS of new/almost new motels in the area. Look for addresses on NASA Road #1/NASA Parkway (there is a name change going on - same street), or Bay Area Blvd. The newest motel is a La Quinta on Bay Area Blvd. As someone else suggested, Kemah Boardwalk (the Aquarium restaurant is quite unique) and Tookies for hamburgers are good. You'll only be +/-20 miles from downtown Houston and it's an easy drive at any time except rush hours. Downtown Main street has lots of restaurants and a new Metro light rail system that goes from downtown by the zoo, by the Museum of Fine Art & Contemporary Art Museum, by the Texas Medical Center and all the way south to the Astrodome/Reliant Stadium. The round trip would give you a good tour of that part of the city. What are you interested in? What kind of restaurants are you looking for? Houston may have more restaurants per capita than any other city - know we did at one time. If you are in to shopping, don't miss the Galleria and the Water Wall near there is a great experience.

Have you been to San Jacinto Battleground State Historical Park? Just wonder what all the park/tour had to offer? Is there still the mission there restore to tour around?:confused:

The San Jacinto battleground would be a great place to go if you are into history. There is a monument there (looks like Washington Monument but this one has a huge star on the top - everything is bigger and better in Texas after all!) with a museum inside. You can ride to the top for a good view if it's a clear day. The Battleship Texas is just down from the Monument, and one of the best restaurants around is also there (Monument Inn - try the shrimp and wow, those cinnamon rolls are wonderful). Don't forget to stop and see the place where Santa Anna surrendered.
