bobnsandi Posted August 11, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2006 Just looking for a pointer/link to a list of the various cuisines of each restaurant on the Pride of Hawaii. Thanks. I'll give it a try. I think that some other CC'ers can fill in where I don't get it. Grand Pacific Main Restaurant --Typical cruise main dining. Can always get steak/fish. Alizar Main Restaurant --Same menu as Grand Pacific. Paniolo Tapas & Salsa Restaurant --Open only in the evening, it is pretty much "Tex/Mex" in style. Cagney's Steakhouse --As the name implies, steak, lamb, etc. Well worth the extra money. Le Bistro French Restaurant --Sorry, did not go to this restaurant. Anyone else? Aloha Nui Café --The buffet. Everything and anything. There were many interesting specialties every meal. There is always a fruit station with great fresh fruit. They have people making fresh items, such as stir-fry in the evening, omelettes in the morning. In the back, there is the grill with hamburgers and hot dogs. Also pretty good pizza. There is always a salad bar station, and a dessert station. Aloha Nui Lanai --If not serving, it is a nice place to sit and enjoy the food you picked up in the main buffet. When they serve, they have most of the items the inside would have, but there is little room, and they may run out of some items. Jasmine Garden Asian Restaurant --We felt this was the best on the ship, well worth the extra cost. Sushi bar with all you can eat. Sit down, you have a menu with Chinese and several other types of oriental cuisines represented. Can also order sushi, I think. There are a couple of tables with shabushabu, which is "hot pot" Japanese style. Inside, they have teppanyaki, which we did not eat. Papa's Italian Kitchen --Italian. High quality ingredients, we enjoyed our meals there, check out the reviews on CC. Blue Lagoon --Comfort food, open 24/7, except in the evening when it morphs into Tex/Mex. Good fish and chips, good wings, etc, etc. Can get crowded, check first.
Naashtezhi Posted August 12, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted August 12, 2006 Thanks for the links and the summary, it's just what we were looking for. With all the talk about making reservations first night, it's hard to figure out what to make where...
mamagina Posted August 12, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 12, 2006 I know I've seen it 100 times... But what are the surcharges for the "pay extra" restaurants and which ones are they?
Audiocracy Posted August 12, 2006 #6 Share Posted August 12, 2006 I made this list for an earlier post: Specialty Restaurants that charge are: Cagney's Steakhouse - $15 (Unless you order the Whole Butter-Poached Main Lobster, The Surf And Turf or the 24oz. Porterhouse Steak which will cost $25 instead of $15, not in addition) Jasmine Garden (The Main Retaurant section - $10, the sushi bar section - a la carte, the mongolian hot pot section - $10 and Teppanyaki - $20) Le Bistro - $10 (Unless you order the Chef's Tasting Menu which costs $20 instead of $10) Specialty restaurants that don't charge are: Papa's Italian Kitchen Paniolo Tapas & Salsa No charge: Grand Pacific Dining Room Alizar Dining Room Blue Lagoon Aloha Nui Cafe Aloha Nui Lana I think those are the correct prices. Correct me if they are wrong.
smarterman64 Posted August 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2006 looks right to me. As for tips. Never trust the grand pacific on the tv screens. It is usually incorrect as is blue lagoons. Heck i don't even see a computer at blue lagoon's area, so i don't even know how they would calculate blue lagoons. Grand pacific is usually not true. If you see a line outside, forget what i said and they are probably pretty packed. late dinners are good for main restaurants. Alizar's was pretty accurate. I was heading to grand pacific one day and went on the mid stairs. I saw the screen and kept going down to alizar since the screen was half, and sure enough it was pretty empty so i went in and had dinner there instead. One time at grand pacific, i walked in at 9:25 or so and was seated. The screen said the restaurant was all full. I had the fastest meal the entire week, 20 minutes for an appetizer (soup), main course (Terriyaki chicken) and desert (ice cream). So who says POH doesn't have great service
