Very funny pricing!

I was just messing around at a few internet TA sites and came across this very funny pricing! This is for the one night Seattle to Vancouver run on the Dawn Princess this September, interior double.

 

Cruise fare: $12.53

Taxes and fees: $69.04

Total: $81.57 per person

 

$12.53! Imagine using a FCC for this! :D

...but it still counts as 1 cruise towards Elite...

We did this in May and the casinos and stores are not open so I am not sure where they make their money other than on alcohol. I agree that it doesn't make sense to count this towards Elite status when it's the same as a much longer one, but where else can you get those type of accommodations and meals for such a great price.

 

Wish I lived closer!!

It's almost an airline model for perks. Southwest does the same thing as all one way flights count as one credit toward a free flight. Same credit if you take the Oakland to LA flight for $59 or the Oakland to Lauderdale flight for $200. Simple for us here in the Bay Area. Pay for all your flights to LA, San Diego, Vegas etc. and use the free flights for cross country runs.

sonomaphil, which websites did you check? I see at cruise.com they have it listed at $159. Might be fun to do that one, then the 2 day cruise after it from Vancouver to San Francisco.

Unfortunately, this is not doable as it would be a violation of the PSA.

I can't tell you exactly where it is but I checked a few value and discount sites and the fare is still available. $159 would be full price.

 

And it would be a violation of the PSA to do the Seattle to Vancouver run then the Vancouver to SF run. Trust me I tried.

Unfortunately, this is not doable as it would be a violation of the PSA.

 

I think the PSA requires a stop at a non-US port, and the last time I checked Vancouver was one:confused: . Or have we annexed Canada now?

1 - wonder how much you can eat between Seattle and Vancouver? and

2 - I can't find the answer on the Princess site - but I had always thought that cruises of 3 days or less did not count toward the Captain's Circle status???

As far as I know, all cruises count towards Platinum or Elite status. Some of the airlines have a set up where it's either total miles or total flights. (UA for example is 25,000 miles or 30 flights - I met somebody once who did it on flights - flying up and down the coast to visit family every other weekend.)

 

On another question, doing the back to backs Seattle Vancouver SF is a violation of the PSA because Vancouver counts as a "foreign port" only on a round trip from one city.

 

The Dawn situation next month is because the US goverment sees the two cruises as transporting people between two different US ports (Seattle and San Francisco) with a stop at a near foreign port. To legally go between two different US ports, you need to stop at a distant foreign port. This was as it was explained to me by two different Future Cruise people onboard two different cruises, and by my travel agent.

 

Personally, since these a different voyages and are priced accordingly per Princess, I wouldn't think of them as transportation between two US ports. However, while the future cruise person said Princess agrees with me, the US government does not. So, we're flying to Vancouver not Seattle next month.

 

Hope this makes sense.

We booked Seattle to Vancouver b2b with

Vancouver to LA last year. Princess said

we couldn't do it, they and we would be fined.

So we flew to Seattle, took Amtrac to Vancouver,

and enjoyed the cruise to LA.

now looking for our 19th......

A round-trip voyage only requires a stop in a foreign port. A ship that transports people (regardless of how the trip is "packaged" into different cruises) between 2 US ports requires a stop in a foreign continent.

Could someone explain to me the importance of this law now in 2007. I read the link an above poster gave and it stated this law was introduced in 1886. I'm sure there's something I'm missing in why this is important but honestly I don't get it.
