Summary of Winning Bids on Priceline, Hotwire, etc.

Hotwire lists 5 hotels for San Juan- a 2*, a 2.5*, a 3*, a 3.5*, and 2 4 stars. Does anyone know what the 3* would be? I saw that Doubletree was listed as an example of a 3* hotel but wasn't sure if that was it.

It all depends on what amenities are showing. Like Priceline, one needs to be careful about thinking they will get one hotel, and end up with another. Hotwire uses different hotels for the star levels, but the exact hotel can sometimes be narrowed down based on the amenities shown. For my date, they were showing a 3.5* that matched the Normandie Hotel and a 3* that matched Hotel Miramar. Both get bad reviews on Tripadvisor so I didn't have any interest.

If you check out package deals to Puerto Rico on Hotwire, they will list the hotels, amenities and star levels. This is one way to narrow down specific hotels.

Tried last nite for 3 rooms for 2 nites Feb 28 until March 2nd. No luck. Hoping for the 3 star.

Bid $40, $45, and $50. Three bids for the cat 3 no luck.

Will try again tonite. Cheaper room probably gone. Saw they got them for under $50 at the Courtyard same weekend.

Did research and yes the Miramar is a 3 star on Hotwire, but a 2 star on Priceline, if you do the packages and figure it out that way.

No one has replied to my question about the Sheraton and other 3.5* hotels on Priceline (about adding other areas). Although looking at suznf's post, I think I have it straight. I originally thought there were 3.5* hotels in other areas, so I was selecting ONLY San Juan and just increasing the price, meaning I was missing out on the rebids and having to wait 24 hours.

Looking at betterbidding's hotel list, am I right that there are only 2 hotels listed at 3.5* and they are both in zone 6 (San Juan). SO, if I want to get a rebid, I am safe to add the other areas?

I don't want to make a huge mistake and end up on the other side of Puerto Rico when I want an OSJ hotel for the pre-cruise night!

Does anyone know what hotel this 3 star in the Fort Lauderdale beach area might be? I wanted a lower priced hotel for just one night before cruise and am concerned about possible taxi costs to/from airport and cruiseport.

What area did you ask for? Unless I am mistaken (always a distinct possibility although it hasn't happened yet :D ) that hotel is 28 miles from the airport! As we will not have a rental car I would want a hotel preferably with free shuttle or an inexpensive taxi ride. I would not be happy if I said airport area and was stuck with a hotel 28 miles away.

burm: let me help you out...IF you are looking for a hotel in FT LAUDERDALE this is not the thread to look at There is a miramar in san juan (which is what all of these people are getting) This is the san juan puerto rico thread.

You will need to look in east coast departures then florida for the priceline/hotwire help.

miramar in florida is far from the piers as you stated

FYI: i just got the renaissance in ft laud for my cruise $133 plus taxes=$150 per night on hotwire if that may help you out.

TribeFan, When you go into the "name your own price" section, you will see 6 zones in Puerto Rico. If you click on each zone individually and there are no 3.5*, 4* or resorts shown, then that is a free rebid zone for 3.5* hotels in San Juan. For example, you can't win a 3.5* hotel in Ponce because Priceline doesn't offer any in that zone. Using permutations, there are many free rebid opportunities in San Juan for 3.5* hotels.

One more thing TribeFan, Priceline can always upgrade you to a higher rated hotel. Not really an issue in PR, but here's an example. Let's say you bid on a 3.5* hotel, get denied and you add another zone that has no 3.5* hotels, but has a 4* in that zone. Priceline can upgrade you to that 4* hotel. Just something to keep in mind for future bidding. I've seen people bid for specific 3* hotels and get upgraded to a 3.5* and not be happy about it. Good luck.

Drats!

2 different hotels for each night. I didnt think we could make it Friday the 20th so I jumped the gun and did priceline and won Sheraton for Sat

Now I find out we can go early, just booked my airfare and then hit price line HOPING to get the Sheraton again.

Just won Courtyard By Marriott San Juan Miramar for $70 for Fri 2/20

and then we have to move to the Sheraton on Sat 2/21.

How far is this from the airport and how far is it from Courtyard to Sheraton?

Looks like it's going to be an adventure!

Congrats!! I'm glad I could help :D

Well I've tried all week to get my pre cruise stay on the 28th at a reasonable price.....I wasn't willing to downgrade my star rating  so I ended up today bidding $210.00 and "won" El San Juan Resort & Casino...I'm hoping it will be okay :o

Good luck to everyone else and happy travels!!!

just so everyone knows... PRICELINE usually allows extention of hotel win So if your plans change and you were originally booked on a saturday but need the friday before/ or sunday after...call priceline and they should give you the same hotel at the same price for the extra day. (unless hotel is sold out)

ok i just got home from a little hotel hopping in the Condado area :D

La Concha - hotel exceeded my expectations had some problems with noisy neighbors and got upgraded to a "balcony"room. I have to say their costumer service is great. the restaurant by the pool has nice tapas style dinning in the evening .

Marriott Stellaris - had some problems with the air conditioning but for the inconvenience got upgraded to a pool view . i just wanted a room with a working air conditioning a street view would have done. The hotel is really nice overall , although the casino needs a little refurbishing because it looks and feels really dark and outdated

Caribe Hilton - thank god i had only paid 124 including tax trough priceline , the hotel is not what it used to be . I think the last refurbish was done in 1999 and it shows . i found a very old looking cigarette bud in the balcony and the room felt dusty i left the hotel about 1 hour after arriving

Condado Plaza - by far my favorite got here after leaving the Hilton . had and ocean view room . the room was really nice and a very good size and the bathroom was more than enough for two people . the service was awesome and the food was really good and after comparing the prices it was the cheapest.

Just back from some 'hopping' ourselves -- stayed at the Caribe Hilton and Condado Plaza pre-cruise, two nights each; and at the Marriott one night post-cruise.

DW liked Marriott best, for combination of room (new, bright, very functional, nice comfy bed and best TV) and grounds. Its proximity to restaurants in Condado is a plus, particularly a great new Argentine place down the block. Walked over to lobby & grounds of La Concha, nice, and walked back along the beach, also nice.

Hilton's grounds were probably the best IMO, and the lobby is a nice place to have a drink and listen to live music, but the room was dated as others here have said. We enjoyed the walk from here along Escambron beach and over to OSJ. Walking to/from Condado in the evening, however, was not attractive, and we opted instead for taxis. Took a peek at the Normandie next door, okay-looking lobby but even then you can tell that it's not all put-together.

Condado Plaza was the pleasant surprise, with a renovated room that gave us a good look at the ships docked at the Pan Am pier (including ours, Galaxy, on sailaway day, first time that's happened... bonus was a rainbow over the ship!) Good eats in the Noodle Bar right by the casino, and nice pina coladas at the pool/beach.

Best lobby in town, however, still has to go to the El San Juan... reviews and word-on-the-street about the rooms is unfortunate.

Well I got 3 rooms for Feb 38 to March 2 at the Courtyard Marriott Miramar.

First try tonite for $55. Last nite I tried $40,45,50. No luck.

Happy we got the rooms reasonable. Saw the price was over $200 for the same time period.
