sea otter wildlife quest cheaper independently

I was wondering if anyone had done the Sea Otter Wildlife quest out of Sitka independently as while researching the companies web site I note that it is significantly ($59 vs $>100) cheaper doing the independent tour. (The web site has different info pages for each cruise line and independent travellers) Is it very different to the tours booked through the cruise lines

In Sitka you might want to consider one of the small independents and have the option for a look at St. Lazaria if you are interested in puffins.

We did the sea otter wild life tour twice. Enjoyed it very much.

The first time we did it a few years ago, the ship's tour was completely sold out for both morning and afternoon by the time we got on the ship. Certainly glad we had pre-ordered. The company even sent out extra boats to accommadate everyone. There was another cruise ship in with us that day - and everything was sold out on their as well.

A couple we talked to on our ship tried to book one of the independents when they got ashore, but they were also sold out.

So whether you decide to go with the ship's tour or do it independently, book early.

Also the tours to Lazaria aren't as extensive as the wildlife quest so be sure you know what you want before you book. Wildlife quest is excellent and does book quickly.

I have gone independent several times and ALWAYS had more time viewing than Allen Marine- so not always true. It depends who you go with and what you arrange.
