Single Cruiser...Can You Have A good Time ?

Been going through lots of stress with my 89 yr. old Mom. Been thinking about going on a cruise alone. Husband has no interest in cruising. This would be my fourth cruise, but first alone. First one was with Mom in 2004. She was doing so good then. I haven't called my PVP yet. Kind of nervous.

I did my last cruise solo and LOVED it. In fact, once my friends saw the pictures, they started saying that we need to plan one. Uh, I really liked sailing by myself and don't know if want to deal with "girl drama." Another woman about my same age (30) was at my dinner table, and she didn't tell people that she was going until right before because she didn't want anybody else to join her!

I'm not shy, and I met tons of people in the terminal waiting to board, at the disco. In a lot of cases, people would see me by myself and invite me join them. I was never by myself where I felt lonely, but I was able to do what I wanted.

I found most people were in awe that I would sail by myself, and if you're a single woman that wants to meet single men, it is probably easier for men to approach you since it's a lot less intimidating than approaching a group of women.

If you're considering sailing by yourself, do it! I did feel a little awkward doing it, but after about 1 hour on the ship, I was drinking the Fun Ship special on the Lido deck with new friends!

I posted this on anothere site when this topic came up .

I cruise alone all the time icon_smile.gif well... I took two women with me on sepreate cruises and both ended up the two worst cruises Ive taken.

couldnt stand the complaining ...like

"I dont want to go to the Casino"

" I have to do my hair and make up I'll be ready in an hour"

"we have been sitting in the hot sun for over an hour"

"sex?.. Now?.. It's only 11:00 am"

"sex? ..Now?...someone may come up on the deck and see us "

"lets go shopping"

"it's 10:30 pm lets go to Bed"

" she's just going to braid my hair Ill be done in an hour"

"another beer? youve already had two today so far"

"No!! the shower is too small for both of us at once"

"i have to make the bed and clean up before the stewart comes"

"the topless deck is for perverts"

" I look Fat in That Bikini Ill wear this one piece with a cover up"

"Don't do that Here....I think theres cameras in the Elevators"

" I dont like the way the Girls were Looking at you when you were singing"

" I just want to Cuddle"

"Theres not enough room up there by the Port Holes to do that"

" stop using the mouthwash right from the bottle"

The list can go On and On.... Going on my 6th cruise January 25th and going alone... Booked another one for October 13th of 2007 on the Liberty By myself as well.

There is no words to describe the freedom of Cruiseing alone!!!

there are plenty of singles on board to play with and dance with then go back to being alone doing what you want to do when you want to do it...this past October on the Sensation (4 night)I just didnt feel like getting off the ship at either port so I didnt icon_smile.gif It was my choice and I had a great cruise just hanging around the ship for the whole cruise...you can do whatever you want !!!! It's a wonderful Life...lol

Do a four day cause the quick three days is just one day too short. youll just be getting used to it and then it's over...the extra 4th night is just enough, Im doing my first 8 day in Oct ...Just hope i have enough Casino money to hold out that long....

Try it alone you'll love it

I'll be on the Liberty with you in October.... as a single, too. This will be my 12th cruise, but only second as a single. I was on the Conquest this past October on my first solo cruise and loved it. I was part of the Saints and Sinners, Part Deux group and always felt like I fit iin and no matter where I went people were asking me to sit with them and calling out my name, which is particularly gratifying, since I'm older than dirt and have six grandchildren. I had been afraid that, being both single and old, I would be lonely and feel ostracized. That certainly didn't happen!

I think the CC groups are a great way for a single to sail. And I think Carnival is a great line for singles. Their supplement seems to be lower than all the other ships (I only paid 124% on the Conquest) and Carnival is far nicer than I had anticipated. I've sailed on Celebrity, RCCL, NCL and SeaDream and can honestly say I had more fun on Carnival's Conquest than on any of my other cruises. And I found the Conquest to be right up there with Celebrity's M-class ships and RCCL's Radiance class.

You should join us on one of our group cruises (Saints and Sinners)... plenty of singles, and just fun people in general... single or attached. We are going to be on the Fantasy for a quickie on Jan 8... have a great cruise on the Sensation... still my favorite ship!!

I've sailed with Chris on a Saints and Sinners booking, and I guarantee that she will just absolutely NOT let you not have a great time. Her "halo" may be just a little tarnished though. Just look for the neon-orange hair. :D

I posted this question on the solo board, but this thread has a lot more action.

Anyway, I booked one of the Cruise Critic Group Cruises on the Carnival Miracle that leaves on 4/1/07. Since I don't have a companion willing or able to go with me, I booked it solo. I've been on three cruises before with two different singles cruise agencies. Since I'm introverted, they worked fairly well for me as I always had a group of people to hang out with. However, I'm not using them this time as I've met someone (I didn't meet him on a cruise. He lives in my city :) ) My new friend has said that he dosen't want to go and my girlfriends are either married or are single moms and don't have the time or money. I figured I'd never do anything if I waited around for other people to join and since I really love cruising, I decided to go alone. The closer it gets to sailing, the more terrified I feel and the more I think that I might not have any fun, because it isn't easy for me to meet other people. What's even more problematic is that the cruise I'm on is during Spring Break, which means the ship will consist of mostly families and I won't have anything in common with the other passengers. Please someone convince me that I didn't make a mistake in doing this.

LadyV,

It looks like you found a great bunch of people on the "Mayhem" thread for that cruise. It looks like you will have more than enough friends to pal around with when you get on the ship. They all seem very friendly on that thread.

I think that you will have a great time on the cruise with the nice people you have met on the "Mayhem" thread.....:D

  • 2 months later...

I am hoping to have a good time...

taking my two kids with me ... for my first cruise in April- but I am sure that I will be left alone ...LOL as they will be in their own worlds

then I am hoping to find someone to go with me on my second cruise ... or perhaps I will go on a single cruise that I saw mentioned in another posting.

Dont really want to go alone, but when there is no other choice... what to do ... sit home alone & be bored

or go on a cruise & perhaps ...meet people & have fun ;)

Glad to see this thread pop back up again......

I learned so much when planning a cruise for the first time as a single/solo cruiser. I have done cruises in the past ...but never alone...

If you are thinking about doing it for the first time....take a few minutes and look through. Many people helped me to do this along with many others.

I booked a cruise for myself .... "And so can you":)

I am absolutely counting down until my solo cruise in November.

I was sitting in staff meeting today listening to people gripe about stupid stuff and thinking to myself "I can't wait until I don't have to listen to anyone complain for a whole week!"

:D

Glad to see that someone resurrected this thread. I will be cruising alone again in April and cannot wait. This time, I will know one couple beforehand, but don't want to bother them too much. I also like doing my own things. It's restful on the brain. :D

That is really cool. I'm glad this thread popped up again.

Going in Oct on the Liberty with the Saints and Sinners. They talked me into it. Looks like a great bunch.

Got a great price with the CC group and $100 shipboard credit...champagne and chocolates and cocktail party. Booked a 1A and have already been bumped to a 4A.....

Good hearing from you....:)

You'll be fine!! There will be plenty of opportunities to meet others... people are MUCH more approachable on a cruise, so easy going. Try to see if there are others on your roll call and chat with people before going, that will make it easier!!!! Have a great time!!!

Every option in life can be obtained only by giving up some other option. If you marry, you give up the freedom of being single. If you're single, you give up the security of marriage.

In my opinion it's not so much which option you choose as how you deal with it. If you're married, don't mope about not being single. If you're single, likewise. Once you've made a choice, embrace it wholeheartedly and forget about the alternatives. There are always alternatives to everything we choose, so if you want you can waste your whole life worrying about what you're not doing rather than enjoy what you are.

Once you choose to cruise solo, focus exclusively on the benefits, of which there are many:

Be as active as you like, whenever you like, doing exactly the activities that suit you.

Rest whenever you like.

Get up as early or as late as you like.

Ditto on bedtime.

Eat whatever and whenever you like.

Spend as much or as little as you like.

Interact with everyone you meet entirely because of who you are, not because you have arm candy or are arm candy.

If you're not the sort of person who's a social magnet, and you still want to interact socially, here's a little tip: just ask questions. People love explaining things, and they love talking about themselves.

I'm so glad to see this thread again. I too enjoyed my first solo last October. I have to say I had more fun and met more people than I ever did when I cruised with others. It seems when you are solo you are looking to meet others more. Every day I met someone new - whether at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The dining room did a great job of seating the solo's demographically. I met some great people at dinner and we enjoyed other activities together - shows, trivia, etc.

Most people are really outgoing and friendly - if you have never done this you will be pleasantly surprised!! I was!! And I had a blast.

I too will be on the Oct 13th Liberty. And like Mr. October the scariest part will be making my $$ last in the casino for 8 days!! Well maybe that is the second scariest part - the first being I will be having dinner each night at Allen's table
