Money won at casino

Anyone who says they "usually" win at the casino is, at the very least, fooling themselves. You can "occasionally" win, you can have a run of good luck, but you can't "usually" win. Over the long haul, the casino advantage will catch up to even the luckiest of players.

Oh how true. No one could love the casinos any better than me: I don't frequent our Indian ones here (maybe I go 3 times a year) why, because I know I will just throw good money away. I still love the excitement, like everyone I dream I will hit the biggy someday and I plan for our Vegas trips, Laughlin or cruises for months with the casino being part of my plan. Do I expect to win? Of course not. I allow myself x number of $$s per day. Sometimes I come back to the cabin with 3 or 4 or more times more than that; most of the time I come back with about 1/2. It's my entertainment for the night. NMNita

As soon as I knew that I was planning a cruise I stopped going to the casinos to save money. I had an appointment and was really early so I stopped in a

7-11 and put $10.00 into a poker machine. I made $1,000 and was able to upgrade from a inside cabin to one with a balcony. Do they have poker machines on cruise ships? I know better than to think they have keno machines.

I love the excitement and the thought (dream) of winning - always have, always will. Nothing against the ships, but vegas is much more exciting. I haven't been there in YEARS....was going to go this summer for my bday - but never made it. Maybe next year!

Yes, they have poker machines. The slot machines are available in penny, nickel, quarter and dollar amounts.

Forgot to mention I got a royal flush at that 7-11.

When you make here (Las Vegas) stay on the Boulder Strip - where the locals go and you can win a bit more - still real close to the Las Vegas Blvd.

I saw her web page yesterday for the first time. It's content richer than most online T/A sites. I saw no evidence that she was promoting herself and I do not think she is a T/A. She does however, mention the T/A she uses.

I don't really know how to play craps - I used to play with a friend of mine and would just do whatever he told me. But I do like to walk by the craps table throw $ down and yell 8 the hard way - sometimes I win - but either way I walk away - cuz that's all i know. maybe i will get a book on craps to read before the cruise.

but you guys have given me a little hope - i will be sure to report back with my winnings after the cruise.

Hi Kathy --

Here's an excellent book about gambling, and it has a fine chapter on craps: "American Mensa Guide to Casino Gambling" by Andrew Brisman. You can find it at your neighborhood Barnes & Noble, or online.

Good luck!!

Unless you're my best friend who turns every slot machine she sits down at into an ATM machine!

I am the one that said "usually" and by no means am I fooling myself. I play for entertainment, set myself limits and I am very disciplined. I know when to walk away. I set aside x amount to gamble with. Maybe you don't like the word "usually" ? Let's use a % instead. How about at the end of a cruise coming out ahead 88% of the time ?

Mr. Gizmo's % is even higher. He lost money on only 1 cruise. He claims that was because the cabin number did not have a 7 in it. He will not book a cabin unless it has a 7 in the number.

DW & I have both won $1000 several times on cruises on slot machines and draw poker. Once hit a royal flush on a terrible 6/5 machine for $1000 and the machine had to pay out in $0.25 (that's 8 buckets worth) since it was not set for hand pay.

Last cruise had amost a 30 min roll at the craps table, everyone did very well. Had $10 from a co-worker, put it in a $1 machine on the way to dinner, bang $300.

If you start with say $100 at the blackjack table, win $20, that's a 20% return on your money. Can't get that in a bank. The trick is knowing when to stop, and come back tomorrow.

To make your bankroll last longer, if the slot machine is a simple multiplier for additional coins, say 800 for one coin, 1600 for two coins, 2400 for three coins, just play one coin. You will have three times as many more chances to hit the 800 jackpot.

Sometimes you win, sometimes break even, most often you lose. But it's a great challenge. Didn't someone say "A $1 won is sweeter than a $1 earned."?

OK, I fired up my Excel spreadsheet, totalling all the winnings and losings reported in this thread so far. It shows 18 posters reporting total winnings for themselves or others of about $53,000, and only one person admitting a monetary loss of $30, although several posters reported that they usually lose, but didn't give the amounts. Based on specific reporting of wins and losses, casinos have a payout rate of over 170000 percent! Wow, and to think the non-gamblers are financing all this through their cruise fares.

Similarly, the people who go to Vegas and don't gamble must be financing all those huge deluxe emporia. The mind boggles...

On our last cruise on the Oosterdam Mary hit a Jackpot.

In her case I think the casino really liked her hitting on the machine that she did. It was on the end of the row right next to line to the cashier's window, which at that time was quite long. It took them forever to come over and cash the machine out, I think the casino management wanted to get as much advertisement that the machines do pay well at least sometime. ;) When she did get paid it was right to office to pay down the room account.

What have been your odds in wining/losing ratios?

The slots are not as bad as the machine scraper rakes...

21/BlackJack is still one of the best odds..well depending factoring is the amount of decks used too..

House wins more than you loose.

So every casino is actually a depository... *S*

Luckily some do have the Luck of the Dutch with small withdrawls.

When are Cruise Ships going to offer guests Drinks GRATIS as almost all other Withdrawl Locations do?

Easily done with the Room Card too a basic DATA Base is kept for amount of play time as well money given (deposited)...

Which ships on HAL now have there OCEAN PLAYERS CLUB on the machines ?

Before you go aboard call them too so they know;

888-672-2582

Each ship on any CCL:NYSE Line has this...

A great benefit thats Gratis for you <^>

On my carnival cruise which ended 10-19-06, there were two winners of the 2 cent slots. They both got bmws. We also heard that on the liberty, someone won the mega jackpock which paid out 900k. Me...I hardly ever win. I'm just happy if total bill is less than the actual price of the cruise.

All gamblers are honest, right? You're all reporting your gambling winnings. "All gambling winnings must be reported irrespective as to whether any portion thereof is subject to withholding." http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc419.html

Any winnings over 1,2000 are reported - if you get 3 royals, as long as you cash out immediately, you do not report. This is why I stick to quarter machines...;)

I must not be understanding you correctly. Are you saying that you deliberately stay under the withholding threshold so that you can cheat on your taxes?

you also notice many of those who say they won $200 or $1000 again don't tell you about all the times they were in the casino and lost. They love to say, one time on such and such ship I hit a $1000 jackpot. Of course this is wonderful and I would love to tell that story but I also know, like someone said, those hotels in Vegas are not build on our winnings. Even when someone says, Yes I do usually win, I am very disapplined what about the $10, $20 or so you lose before you even win? It's fine to walk away a winner, many of us do sometimes, but there are still all those times you lose before you hardly get started. NMnita

But Candy, why don't you go on our cruise? DH would be at the crap table also I am sure.... At least a little.

While here, does anyone know if HAL has penny slots? NCL has both penny and nickel as well as larger denominations. I usually play nickels, some quarters and love the funny penny machines. Celebrtiy didn't have any penny machines and not too many nickel ones. (Zenith anyway)
