Sleep Inn Dania Beach charged $10 early arrival fee.

DW and I checked into the Sleep Inn at around 11:00 AM on our scheduled reservation date but had to pay a $10 early arrival fee. We are from California and have never had this happen before. Hotels here have always allowed early check-in if a room is available with no extra fee. It's just good business. Is this a common practice in Florida?

No, it is not a common practice. I have never heard of it:eek:

Did you ask to speak with the General Manager about it?

Silliest thing......why didn't they just tell you the room

wasn't ready? but to charge extra?

In my opinion that is really idiotic.

I'm a travel agent and I've NEVER heard of an early arrival fee anywhere. I've heard of an early departure fee, but that's a different animal. You may want to contact Guest Relations of Choice Hotels, the franchiser for Sleep Inns. A franchise can probably charge such a fee but Corporate should know about it because it gives the entire chain a bad name. It's only $10, but it's the principle. It cost the hotel nothing to give an available room to you. BobK/Orlando
