Intercontinental - Sydney

Hi:

 

Going on the Sapphire Princess next March to NZ and Australia. We're doing a post cruise and our last stop is the Intercontinental in Sydney. I've been searching the posts for information on this hotel and I haven't found any information.

 

I was wondering about the location. Originally we were booked at the Four Seasons and it seemed like a good choice. Now with the cruise tour we've chosen, our TA has booked us at the Intercontinental for our last two nights.

 

Any comments or info will be appreciated. If it's not a good location, maybe it's not too late to change?

The Intercontinental Sydney, is located near Circular Quay.If you look on their website it shows the location on a map of Sydney. It is a downhill walk to the Opera House and Gardens. It is not really in heart of the "tourist/shopping area" but you will be able to walk or get transport to other areas. Enjoy your stay.

And the Intercontinental is really only about a five-minute walk to the Four Seasons, so in reality your location hasn't changed very much.

Sydney is an easy city to walk - yes the Interconti is a little out of the hub but depending on the type of room you stay in, your budget and whether views are a priority it is wonderful - we stayed in an harbour exec corner suite last year and I must say it would be one of the nicest hotel rooms we have stayed in - sweeping views of the harbour and being a club room having access to the club lounge - awesome.....

we have a similar situation. we were to be booked into the Four Seasons but they would not guarantee a harbor view so my TA called the Intercontinental and they would guarantee the harbor. I was not entirely convinced that this was an equivalent deal so I checked it out and I have now decided that I am happy with this move. Conde Nast Travellor lists it before the Four Seasons in their Top Hotels of the World issue. We will be there before our Feb 28 Saphhire Princess cruise. Can't wait for our first trip Down Under! Thanks for your reply. We'll be getting on the Sapphire Princess, as you're getting off the ship. Please leave some money in the casino, as I love to play the slots, but never win. It is our first cruise to NZ and Australia also. Have a great trip, and oh yes, please leave us some good weather.

I recommend the Shangri-La hotel in this area. Bigger rooms, great views, and I think their international buffet is astounding

We are booked into the Intercontinental with Princess (3 nights) for the start of our 31 day cruise in 2008. What rate is the hotel quoting you? Ours is $744.92 Can. transfers included. I was just wondering if booking direct and doing your own transfers would be any cheaper? Since we would be out of our room most of the day and the views will be in front of you in the harbour and the quays, a fancy room is not important.

 

The Shangri-la is pretty pricey!!

If the Shangri-La in Sydney is anything like the one in Hong Kong, the food must be fantastic. We'll put it on our list of places to visit in 2008.

No of course not!

By all means visit the international buffet, it is fantastic!

It's on the first floor, the one just above the lobby.

 

For a buffet, the quality of the japanese food is pretty good! (Hotel used to be owned by the Japanese)

They also have indian curries, fresh oysters and shrimp and crab and dim sum and korean food and chinese food and ice creams with toppings and pastries and antipasto and well it is all fantastic
