RichardK Posted January 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2007 While in Juneau, we've decided on one of the following two excursions: "Whale Watching Adventure" or "Whale Watching & Wildlife Quest". Using NCL's website, we've looked at the detail given behind each of the two, but there doesn't seem to be enough information so as to differentiate one from the other. For anyone who's been on either one of these excursions, can you please shed some light, or provide some recommendations?? Ideally, maybe someone here is in the know about the similarities and differences between the two?? P.S. Do they both depart from the same area (Auke Bay)?? Thanks for the input. Budget Queen Posted January 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2007 Yes, both go from Auk Bay. Basically they are the same tour. You are likely to see other wildlife on any whale watch. Common to see eagles, sea lions, seals. Go with the longest- more is better. :)
CanCanCase Posted January 2, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2007 The "Whale Watching and Wildlife Quest" is an Allen Marine Tour. You'll be on a large catamaran with 100-150 other people. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that the "Whale Watching Adventure" is booked with Last Frontier Tours and serviced by Dolphin Jet Boats. Here, you'll be on a medium sized boat, very similar to Capt. Larry's - approximately 30-50 other passengers will be with you. I agree with BQ, longer is better. The animals and scenery will be the same. You need to decide what size boat you want to be on, or if you'd rather book an independant tour. There's the Capt. Larry option which is probably the best of the medium boat tours. If you've got a group of 4-6 that want to go, you'll very likely get a longer tour with much more personalized service if you book a private charter boat for about the same price... -Case
RichardK Posted January 2, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted January 2, 2007 Thank you both for your replies. Budget Queen>>>Although, we've cruised many times, this will be our first cruise to Alaska. Seeing that you've been to Alaska so many times, it's hard not to consider favorably any recommendations you may have. Given that, we sent in our form reserving the "Whale Watch & Wildlife Quest" excursion. Received NCL's confirmation this morning. Thanks again............
