Young cruiser Posted January 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2007 How long do people normally wear their formal dresses after dinner....The reason I ask is because I am a first time cruiser (22yrs old) (Carnival Glory 1/27/07) and I bought an expensive black cocktail dress ( would you know it is on sale now!)for formal night and would like to wear it for most... if not all of the night. It is not a formal prom type dress just a "little black dress" Here is a link if any one would like to take a look http://www.whitehouseblackmarket.com/store/product.asp?PID=300105809 Thanks Ashley
ihavecandy123 Posted January 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2007 That's a gorgeous dress!! On formal night, I changed pretty much right after dinner. But that's because my dress was getting on my nerves. However, I wore cocktail dresses to each dinner and pretty much every night, I stayed in it the entire night to go to the show, the casino, etc. If you're comfy and feel hot, keep it on! moonlit Posted January 14, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2007 That dress looks gorgeous and comfy! Usually the dining room is a little chilly so a simple pashmina shawl might be a real advantage. Some cruiselines sell them for $10. and they are great! Almost everyone stays dressed formally until they retire to their cabins for the night on formal night. You will feel very "well dressed" for the whole evening in that dress. Happy cruise!

There is no way I'm gonna just wear them sitting at the dinner table. :D Show off that dress, girl!

Sassy Chassis Posted January 14, 2007 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2007 We wore our formal attire all night...or at least until our champagne was gone ;)
Barbee524 Posted January 14, 2007 #12 Share Posted January 14, 2007 OK I'll admit it. With me it's not how comfortable the dress is but how comfortable the shoes are that decides how long I stay dressed up.
Nebr.cruiser Posted January 14, 2007 #13 Share Posted January 14, 2007 We ususually wear our formal clothes through dinner and the show, at least. Many others do too, while some change to casual clothes. We sometimes walk after the shows and of course change before that.

So they would prefer for everyone to wear their formal attire all evening. I would only change if I were doing something where formal attire wasn't appropriate, like a late night hot tub. That said, your dress isn't formal. But since from what I've read on these boards, so many Carnival Cruisers don't wear formal dresses, you'll look just fine. It's very pretty and will also be great if you go dancing in the disco.

CruiserinCarlsbad Posted January 16, 2007 #17 Share Posted January 16, 2007 I guess we are among the few who go to one of the cocktail lounges for an after-dinner drink in our formal wear, and then go back to our cabin to change so that we can spend the rest of the evening on deck. We don't normally attend the shows, and don't feel the need to stay in formal wear for the entire evening.
obnurse Posted January 19, 2007 #18 Share Posted January 19, 2007 We wear our formal wear all evening long, too, but the big trick for me is to have shoes that I can wear all night long and not feel like my feet are screaming for mercy.

Solo Cruiser Posted January 19, 2007 #21 Share Posted January 19, 2007 One of my fondest cruise memories was hanging out and dancing in the disco thru the wee hours with everyone in formal wear. By all means wear your lovely dress and be a knockout all night.

scubacindy Posted January 20, 2007 #23 Share Posted January 20, 2007 I love to dress up on formal night, I usually stay in my dress through dinner and the shoes, and then maybe go to one of the clubs for awhile. But, it is the shoes that always get me to go change. I am a sandals, or tennis shoe girl. I wear alot of the slide or mule style shoes, so the really dressy heels kill my feet. I am just not used to them. I do wear boots but try not to get the spiked heeled ones. I am thinking when I get my shoes and dress I need to break them in around the house, my hubby will think I have really lost it if we have formal nights at home!LOL! But, that may be the best way to help those poor feet. Cindy
