No Limit Texas Holdem?

Does Oceania have no limit Texas Holdem Poker games in it casino? Do they ever hold tournaments? If not, can I bring my own poker chips with me and start my own poker game on board in a card room somewhere? The website is sort of vague on what games they have and I wanted to know if No Limit Texas Holdem was available. Thanks in advance.

They definitely do not have any Poker like Texas Hold'em.

 

The Casino is very small and there is a Roulette table, 2 Blackjack tables and another game they were trying out based on Poker but I am not sure if this will continue.

 

I also doubt that they will allow you to arrange any Gambling elsewhere on the Ship but you would have to check this with them.

Thanks Brian! Are the casinos on board typically very crowded? I am curious as to what sort of poker game that they were trying out. No Limit Texas Holdem is VERY VERY popular now and I am surprised more ships dont offer it...

Most shipped probably do not Texas Holdem because the profit margin for the Casino is not very much and most of the Casino are managed and run by outside companies.

 

I do not see how they could prevent you from having your own game in a card room as long as you used chips, but personally I have never seen it done. I would certainly be interested if it was available.

On the last several cruises we have been on they have had 3 card poker, black jack and roulette.

I called customer service to ask about No Limit Texas Holdem. The rep had no idea but said he would check and send me an email. I also asked about bringing my own chips and starting my own game. He also didnt know the answer to that question but promised to get back to me. I havent heard back yet but its only been a couple days.

Your post was some time ago, but I'm glad I found it - I have the same question re: an upcoming Oceania cruise. Did you ever get an answer, or find out the hard way just by trying it out onboard? Thanks.

Can't give you any info on Oceania but I know that Celebrity and Princess both have poker pro automated poker tables in their casinos and offer daily cash games and tournaments. HAL also has poker tables and tournaments but I don't know the details.

 

These are bigger ships. You might have a problem finding a game on the smaller ships like Oceania.

They do not have it...only a few tables and roulette..

no craps either... FYI.... a sister ship w/ Celebrity-Azamara took out the sitting area near the entry to Martinis bar ands they put in a texas hold em :rolleyes: table..

Throw me in with those that would enjoy a little 'All in Hold 'em tournament on the ship'. No big money is probably better. I play in a once a month game with my son and his friends, $60 buy in, 9 players, winner buys the beer! Nobody gets hurt, it's a lot of fun, and unlikely to invite the wrong element. There may be a better format, I'm just throwing this one out.

 

How it would be economically feasible to the ship, I have no idea. As others note, there isn't much of a casino on board and it is not configured to play poker.

 

Is it possible they just don't want Texas Hold 'em, the NFL, or other similar events that might take the DH's attention away from the ladies?!!! I don't see why a Sports Book wouldn't be profitable. I suppose we will be attacked unmercifully if this thread is picked up by the elite.

 

Watch out! Wanting to play Texas Hold 'em could make us Philistines! :eek:

The casino is an outside concession and it's there to make money for the owner(s). Even at a 5% rake on the game you've suggested the casino's take would be only $27 (9 x $60 x 5%) which might last a couple hours. That likely doesn't cover the wage for the dealer let alone any overheads.

 

Put that game up to a $100 buy in with $100 re-buy and now you're starting to get to a point where it might make sense.

 

From what I've seen of the BJ players on board though the house's edge is huge relative to say Vegas. The average cruise passenger doesn't know Jack about Blackjack (no pun intended - okay, maybe just a little ;)).

 

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to play a little hold 'em while my DW is filling the slots with all her money (and some of mine).

that is why more and more ships are installing the Poker Pro automated tables - no dealers!

We don't patronize the casino but last year they had a Texas Hold Em tournament on a sea day. I remember because I encouraged DH to go but he didn't in the end.

There are really only four of those half round card tables in the Casino, and most times that I've been there, two of them were being used for Blackjack at various buy in levels, while the other two alternated between a rotating number of Poker style games such as Caribbean Stud, Three Card, Four Card, Texas Hold 'Em and Let it Ride.

 

Games are not changed while Players are at the Table, but don't expect your favorite poker to remain "The Game" for long if that Table is sitting empty.

thanks - no sea days on our cruise so no tournaments I guess.

 

no cash games at night I assume?..i did not see a table in the pics posted that would work for poker - there is a table game similar to hold-em but is just a variation of caribean stud.

 

I prefer to play other folks in a real poker game...maybe I can get one going in the card room.
