Need info re: Galveston or Houston for post-cruise

We will be on the Carnival Conquest sailing out on 4/1. I had planned to spend one night post-cruise in Galveston. We are traveling with 3 boys (12, 14, and 14) so I thought a beach day would be fun for them. However, I have now been told that the beaches are not very nice. My question is... Should we still say in Galveston or head in to Houston for our post cruise stay. Is Galveston still a nice place to stay with things for the boys to do?

For Galveston, the boys might enjoy http://www.schlitterbahn.com/gal/ or http://www.moodygardens.com.

To research for other things to do in Galveston, click here: http://www.galveston.com/attractions/.

For the Houston area, they might enjoy http://www.spacecenter.org or http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/flash_content/flash_content.html.

I hope this information will be satisfactory,

Host Kats info is great...These are great places to have great post cruise fun..

However...Don't sell Galveston beaches completly short...

Granted...It is not the beach you will see in the Caribbean,or Florida...Or even at Padre Island for that matter..

But they are not exactly dirty either..Yes the water is brown...Muddy from sludge, and all kinds of things from the rivers emptying in to them...But the beaches are very well kept...Head on down to Stewart Beach. Its a very nice family oriented area.Very clean wide beach.Has a pavillion with showers, vollyball area and playground and at parts of the year a concession stand..Its 8 bucks a carload, but worth it considering the easy access to the beach, the mountain sherrifs partol and the pavillion..
