disneygal94 Posted February 12, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2007 I'm planning a cruise in 2008 on Royal Caribbean from Vancouver to Seward. Can someone please tell me which pier RCCL uses in Vancouver - Canada Place or Ballantyne? I found a hotel that has a covered walkway to the Canada Place pier, but I'm wondering if that's the right pier. Thanks!
SoccerMom#3 Posted February 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2007 I'm pretty sure they use the Ballentyne Pier. Since there are not any hotels near that pier, we are staying at the Westin Bayshore and then will take a taki to the pier.
sarahuk Posted February 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2007 Hi RCI use both piers. There is a Vancouver website which shows the sailing schedule for 2007 and this showed that both piers are used for different cruises. I emailed RCI to ask which pier our cruise is going from. We are staying at the Pan Pacific which has a walkway to Canada Place, even though we are sailing from Ballantyne. I was advised on these boards that there are no hotels near Ballantyne and its not a very safe area to stay but its only a short cab ride to Ballantyne from Canada Place. mollyeilis Posted February 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Ours was from Ballantyne. We chose the Westin Grand for that trip (which was more expensive but didn't yet have the Westin heavenly beds, augh), but the Bayshore is nice, too, though I feel it's very far away from everything. Ballantyne is basically in the industrial, container-ship area. If you're used to container ships, it's not awful, but if you're not used to it, then it's a bit odd. I had just been working for a container ship company, so it was sort of like being at work, LOL. Anyway, OUR cab driver took us on an epic journey that cost far too much, IMO. I don't know why. But it took US a long time to get from Westin Grand to Ballantyne. Obviously it doesn't have to be like that, as someone else mentioned it was a short trip, and that's from further away at Canada Place! Perhaps you can try to get a cab driver who won't take you around in circles, as apparently our driver did. Good luck!

Hi: Calendar of ship location schedules (and ports) is available at http://www.cruisecal.com It was handy to pin down where I leave from in Los Angeles where there are two dock areas. We had a great meal at Thai Bistro in Yaletown area - small popular place - arrive early. Good Luck
TCF Posted February 17, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2007 They are presently building a larger convention center next to the Canada Place pier that, if I recall correctly, will have more dock space so everything will probably be all changed around by 2008 anyway. I am not sure if they will drop Ballentyne all together once the new facility is ready. If they do it will make it so much better having all the cruise ships within a block of each other.:D Tom:)
