cherylxx Posted August 24, 2010 #1426 Share Posted August 24, 2010 We're first time X-cruisers, and this thread is wonderful. I haven't read all 70-odd pages yet (after reading the first page, skipped to the last and am reading backwards), but it's so helpful...I don't know how accurate the earlier posts will be, but reading from last to first, it's very useful. We're on our first X cruise in April of 2011 on Connie, and we are SOOO looking forward to it. We've cruised NCL and Princess before, but X sounds like a good fit. Glad that this thread "resurfaced"...looking forward to learning lots more in the future. Couple of questions (sorry, I know this is off-topic)...is there a fee for the T-pool and/or the Aqua Spa Cafe? And is the $100 Persian Gardens cruise rate still in effect? Also, looking at the deck plans, the Connie, after solstisization, does NOT have the Molecular Bar, correct? Thanks everyone! Lynn Hi Lynn We are on the Connie 23/4/2011 is that the one you are on ?? montrealerinnyc Posted August 24, 2010 #1427 Share Posted August 24, 2010 Sailed to Alaska on the Millenium a few years back. Before sailing I had read that the T Pool fades your bathing suit. We loved the T pool - and yes it did fade my bathingsuit. Bring an older suit, so it won't matter if it gets faded. Omigosh yes - several years ago, got into the T-pool on Connie on embarkation day in a brand-new bathing suit. Half an hour later it had gone from bright green to dusty olive-gray! Lesson learned!! :o

But I still love the T-pool. Laura
tobymonster Posted August 24, 2010 #1429 Share Posted August 24, 2010 But I still love the T-pool I'm sailing on Solstice in November, and have not heard of the T-pool. What is it? Thanks!

hapicruisin Posted August 24, 2010 #1433 Share Posted August 24, 2010 I'm sailing on Solstice in November, and have not heard of the T-pool. What is it? Thanks! T-pool is the Thalasotherapy Pool. Do know it is on the M class ships. Not sure about Solstice. It is a warm (sometimes) very warm, theraputic pool. It is very relaxing but it does bleach some swimming trunks/Bathing costumes - as my DH has found to his cost. It is very popular in colder climes as it is indoors by the spa cafe.:):)

No, we're on the April 9 sailing...we'll be going home when you're just coming aboard... Thanks, all, for the answers on the T-pool and the Cafe...looking forward to trying them out (in an OLD bathing suit)!;) Lynn

cruisecriticmember Posted August 25, 2010 #1436 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Oh, one more thing. Let's make this a happy, fun thread. No need to belittle others or make anyone feel bad. Thanks so much, David Thanks, David, for this word of wisdom. Some of the threads are incredible in the disrespect some contributors vent on others.:D
cruisecriticmember Posted August 25, 2010 #1437 Share Posted August 25, 2010 If you're a big reader' date=' here's a hint. At the library there is a "leave one take one" shelf. Drop off any books you've finished during your trip and pick up something new.[/quote']................of course in the fotos of the libray it looks like there is a decent collection of books BUT is it? I realize this is as subjective as taste in everything else.

I realize this is as subjective as taste in everything else. Helpful answer: It depends... Sometimes the good book disappear early and don't come back until the end of the cruise. Sometimes there is a good selection throughout. We like to go to Half Price Books (or similar) and buy books to bring on our cruise. Then we just drop them off in the library for future cruisers. If you are hoping to read a new best-seller - you'll want to bring your own. Sara

FiaNia Posted October 3, 2010 #1446 Share Posted October 3, 2010 Hey there! Going on the Solstice in 2 weeks.:D I heard you can buy "certificates" toward sailing with X again and that they match a portion of what you purchase. Is this true? And can those credits be used for sister lines? Also, (a bit of a side note), did I read that espresso is not given free with dinner?!?! Carnival had me so well pegged that I got 4 cups brought to me after dinner each night! I'll be very dissapointed if X tries to charge...*grrr*

Yes, you can buy what is called a "Celebrity Passage" and it is good forever but it is not refundable. I have purchased them quite a few times before. Then when I know what cruise I want to do I call Celebrity and they take that 100 bucks and apply it to the specific cruise. But as for matching a portion?..never heard of that before. You will receive an OBC when you book the new cruise though:D As for Expresso? There has always been a charge for it. It is a Specialty Coffee...Expresso, Cappuchino, Lattes, etc....they are not complimentary.

mimito4 Posted November 8, 2010 #1450 Share Posted November 8, 2010 I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if this has been posted. You can easily change your complimentary sparkling wine (included in AQ, CC and suites) for a regular wine (red or white). It will just be an average wine, comparable to the cost of the sparkling wine. Just ask your attendant. Also, I posted this on a thread when we just returned last week, but I'll repeat in case it helps someone out: According to current AmEx Celebrity amenities, when you book with an AmEx platinum card you receive a premium bottle of champagne. I was delighted, when instead of the champagne, there was this notice in the room: I called and ordered a bottle of Cakebread chardonnay (one of my favs) and we took it to the MDR, where of course, there was no corkage fee since it was provided by Celebrity (and AmEx). Also, of note, even though the above notice stated that we received a $70 shipboard credit valid for only specialty dining, I saw that the credit was posted to our account on the second day. I asked at the front desk if it had to be used for specialty dining, and she told me that as soon as it is posted to the account, it can be used for anything (other than the casino). We also received a 2 category upgrade via the AmEx Platinum program. Caution: Don't just depend on your TA to know and offer these things. Always do your own research and know what each program offers.
