Booking Ackland Hotel today

What are your thoughts on the best place to stay for access to the city (Auckland---excuse my typo in the subj line) and easy access to the cruise terminal. :) THANKS.

We leave for Auckland in two days. I decided to book at the Hilton (although it may be a bit pricier than others) as it is located right on the pier where the Sapphire Princess will dock.

 

I know another group of CC cruisers are at the Langham.

Our TA booked our hotel as part of a package (not a princess air package)

she booked us into the Stamford Plaza on lower Albert street.

It looks ok although i havent heard any news about this hotel. It even looks like it is right near the pier.

I checked their website and they are offering rooms for 4th april for $208 usd

Look into the Stamford Plaza. I stayed there in Jan one night precruise. we got into a room at 9am, they have a great buffet breakfast, a central location to everything you want to see and we walked to the pier with luggage. Its downhill to the pier so it was easy and we had a lot of stuff. The rooms and lobby are very nice (Hyatt quality) as is the bathroom. Downside is the construction which was only mildly annoying--a couple of guys with hammers at the time. It was a bargain as well--book directly with them for summer savers rate.

Thanks, everyone. We ended up going with the Copthorne Hotel which looks like it is right across from the pier. We'll see how it is. Reviews looked to be so-so on trip advisor. I am sure for 2 nights it will be good enough. Can't wait........

We stayed at the Langham in Nov. 2006 and it is beautiful and also a little pricicy. (sp) They have van that makes regular trips downtown and picks you up again. We used it alot and even several times a day. The foods is really expensive there, we ate at the Casino. We were only there for two days, but we will stay there again if we ever get back to Auckland.

We stayed at the Rydges hotel. Not really very fancy, but clean and very handy to everything--about half way between the big tower and the ship's dock. We arrived after a tiring all-night flight and they let us check in about 9 o'clock in the morning. After a short nap and showers we went out and explored the town on foot. We ate an evening meal at one of the little sidewalk cafes on the pier. Very nice, but, as someone said--very expensive. We thought all our meals were expensive--including even our McDonald's breakfast at the food court in the downtown shopping mall.

Totally recommend the Hilton! We just checked out and boarded a couple of hours ago.

 

This is a small port area and it gets quite congested. Our bellman rolled our suitcases to the porters and we strolled right on to the ship. It would be an even better deal if you are disembarking in Auckland as the line for the taxis was about a block long and you could walk 50 feet to the front door.

Damn, the Hilton is $410 NZD ($284 USD) per night. Thats a whole lot of stones man. I figure I'm gonna' be in the hotel for maybe 10-12 hours and 8 of that is sleeping. That's a lot of bread just for the convenience. I'd opt for the Copthorne like the original poster did. $131 USD is more my speed.

Yes, the Copthorne is literally right across the street (Quay St) from Princes Wharf. Cross the street at the traffic lights and you're at the ship. The only hotel closer is the Hilton which, as has been said, is actually on the pier.

Yep, Karon, the Stamford is one block (or maybe two) up Albert St from Quay Street and the pier.

 

They were about to start refurbishment (and including a couple of new levels) when we were in Auckland in May 06. We didn't go past it in December 06 when we were again in Auckland - but I figure it must be finished by now.

We are usually a bit more anal about reservations and tend to book as early as possible, but I've bookmarked WOTIF. It's a neat site. We were giving serious consideration to the Rendevouz because they have half off the second room and we will be booking 3 of them. A central location is more important to us than proximity to the pier. We would like your review of the Copthorne though. Also, have you booked anything in Sydney? We are doing 3 days pre and post cruise.
