Parents' Anniversary -- Want to do something nice...

Hello all,

So it's my parents' 25th anniversary in June and I really want to do something nice for them. I was thinking of booking them the one night cruise to nowhere on the Spirit in June. Is this a nice idea? My parents aren't the real partying/dancing types but they do love cruises and the casino and the like. Is a two night cruise to nowhere a better idea? Or are these types of cruises too much of a tease? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

I think it's a great idea! If you can swing it, swing the two nights, if not, even the 1 night cruise will be special. Most times for the price it equals a very nice dinner evening out but it's so much better. And since they've cruised before you already know they'll love it.:)

(I'm graduating college) lol.

Congratulations early!:D

And yes, if you can swing a 5 day or so, that would be even better. Sometimes you can find great bargains, but remember to take into account which port it would sail from and how they are getting there. That can add to the expense quite a bit.

On most travel sites you can search for ships that leave by cruise port so you can start with the closest to where they live. Do parents live close to a port anywhere? Also have you considered others that might want to contribute to make it a 'group' gift? Grandparents? Aunts? Uncles? etc.? You could find a great bargain and split the cost among others. It may save them the hassle of trying to find a gift and your parents would get a great gift.;)

We've been on a 2-day cruise and it was great. You don't get quite the same personal service as you would on a 7-day cruise but it's a fantastic way to get away for a weekend.

I've never been on a 1-day cruise but I imagine it would be nice too as long as you don't have to travel a long way to get to the port.

Your parents will love it.

What a great kid you are. Our 3 got together and sent up on a weeks trip to Spain for our 25th. Of course there were 3 of them and our daughter had connections so the trip wasn't all that expensive. It was a wonderful gift, one we will neve forget. Now we have 50 coming up in a year. NMnita

Aww all you guys made me blush!! hehe. :o And thanks for the early congrats! I'm just tryin to get through these next two and a half months...oy.

I actually live in downtownish Brookyn, NY so we're really close to the port that just opened up there and the one in the city. Its just a cab ride away for us to get to the pier :) I might try and spring for a 5 day and get other family members in on it too. The thing is, the other family members will probably want to go too haha. Thanks again for all the great advice (and praise :p )!

Even better! Plan it as a surprise with all pitching in a little extra to pay for mom and dad's, and then all can surprise mom and dad with a ship party when they get on and all the family is there too. 2 surprises in one!:D You can do that with either 1, 2, or 5 nights of cruising. I'm sure they wouldn't mind a little company for their celebration, makes it fun!

I think it is very sweet of you to want to do this for your parents!

Our 25th anniversary is in December and we are going on a Hawaii cruise. I tried to tell DS that the children usually do something nice for their parents' anniversary and he should start saving up!HaHa. he is an only child!! He also just got married 2wks ago. My new DIL said they could go with us! I told her that they may have to wait a few years!! I know money is an issue with them and I wouldn't expect them to pay for it, but it is a good thought!!!

What a great daughter you are!

Whatever amount of days you book, you can order the room decorated, a cake, champagne, delivered to their cabin. Whatever you choose;)

Congrats on the graduation.

Hang in there - 2 more months...good for you:)
