Disembarking in Barcelona - Time

Hi All,

 

We just received our flight information from our TA yesterday. We'll be on the Insignia cruise from Rome to Barcelona leaving on June 29th. We will be arriving in Rome the 27th around noon time. And have a day, at least, to tour Rome. But coming home on the 9th of July - we were wondering how early does the ship start disembarking - and would there be time to 'shop' a little in Barcelona before heading the airport? or are there good shopping at the airport itself as our flight doesn't leave until 3:45 (we know we should be at the airport by 1:45 at the earliest).

 

Suggestions? Ideas? anything? ;-)

We arrived in Barcelona around 7:00 AM.

That would give you the whole morning and time for lunch before you head for the airport. Enjoy, Barcelona is a wonderful crowded city!:)

I'm the other way round..... can I make a 10:50 am flight?

Being a smaller ship, will I get off quite a bit sooner than a 2000 passenger one?

Another question... where can one put their luggage so one doesn't have to lug it throughout Barcelona?

 

And how far 'out of the city' is the airport?

9 miles. Cab ride 20 minutes.

I know big liners tell you time is too tight, but that's because they have to disembark 2000 passengers, and whether there are enough taxis. That's why I wonder if a small ship like O will allow swifter transfer to airport.

Everyone was off the ship by 9:15.

They are very efficient and it takes no time.

Do they let you off at, say, 8am ( in order to arrive airport 2 hours before flight) if you have a flight to catch?

In other words, are they flexible?

Yes, I believe you can ask for a specific departure time if you arrange it with them a few days before.

Regatta docked in Barcelona (from Miami) at 5:50 am, ready for disembarkation at 6:10. DW and I had breakfast in the Terrace Café and walked off at 7:10 am. No special arrangements, no pushing, no sharp elbows.

Collected our suitcases in the arrival hall, hailed a cab and were at our hotel

at 8:15. The airport is in the opposite direction, but should take no more than 20 mins by cab. A 10:50 flight should be doable.

Hi, there is lots of info about Barcelona over on the Ports board for Europe, Med. Someone recently asked about storing lugggage in Barcelona over there and got responces from cruisers who had found a place to store luggage. Also there are a couple of threads about what to see and how to get around the city. If you search the Ports thread for Barcelona you will get alot of info.

I'm on that same cruise. Did you set up your flight through Oceania or a air deviation? We are using Oceania's flight, but have been unable to get the flight info as yet.

We are going through air deviation as we are arriving in Rome a couple of days early. But leave the same day as Disembarkation.

 

There is a Roll Call on this Insignia cruise over at the Roll Call area of the Cruise Critic board.
