Okay so what's the most you have lost?

Recommended Posts

 I have heard most of the stories about the big winners, but how much have you or saw someone lose in the casino.

I usually take a set amount to gamble on $400 to $500. I have done okay on most cruises breaking even or winning a few hundred dollars, but our 2nd cruise , as they say in our area, plucked me like a chicken. I lost most of my gambling money the first night and the rest of it the next day. So I had to settle for watching others the rest of the cruise If I wanted to go to the casino.

I saw one guy go through $1000 in no time at the 3 card poker table but that's about the most I've seen lost in a short time.......................

I usually come out ahead. On the Rhapsody a few weeks ago I won $500.00 on the Wheel of Fortune slots. Yes I actually won because I put in a $20 and on the 3 spin won!! As I was walking in a guy won $2,500.00 on the slots and when I left he was still putting that money back in the machines! I could not believe he was just spending what he had won!

 All in all, can we really call it losing if you had fun?;)

that's what I keep trying to tell my DH. He just doesn't get it. Yet he doesn't have any problem spending $75 on a ski lift ticket for one day. I don't ski so I think if I spend $75 one day in a casino and have fun seems pretty equal. He likes to ski, I like to gamble. I don't ski and he doesn't gamble. but try to explain that to him  he doesn't get it.

Last year on Mariner, my cousin and I were on the elevator with a man and his wife along with another couple. The man (older man) LOOKED like he had money......lots of gold chains, dressed perfectly even though he was casual....very distinguised looking. Anyway the older couple got off on one of the floors while the rest of us rode on up to the 11th floor. The other couple on the elevator told us that the older man had lost $25,000 the night before in the casino. He had been there and witnessed it. Don't know whether or not it's true but I'm betting it was.

The OLDER man, by the way, was quite wasted. Guess I would be too if I had lost $25,000.

I agree, it's entertainment ,its more fun to win but that's why they call it gambling. I don't think you see this so much on a cruise ships but at land based casinos people gamble money they really can't afford to lose.

On one of our cruises, we found spots by the pool one morning. There was a guy asleep on a lounger next to us. After while, he rolled over, and a couple of chips fell out of his pocket. A little later, his friends came and woke him up.

From their conversations, we learned that the guy had brought a certain amount of cash with him for gambling for the week. The previous night, he had taken his evening's "budgeted" amount out of his room safe and headed to the casino. He lost his evening's amount and left the casino. No problem, right?

And now, the rest of the story...

He and his friends continued their evening by drinking quite a lot. He had no memory of it, but since he woke up with chips in his pocket, he could only surmise that, under the influence, he had returned to his room, raided the safe for more cash, and then returned to the casino. He was scared to go check the room safe to see how much he had taken out.

The moral of the story...

Drinking and gambling may both be great ways of entertaining yourself onboard, but the two do not mix well in excess!

Back about 10 years ago I was in the casino in the old Wynndom hotel in Aruba and saw Larry Flynt (Hustler magazine) lose about $300,000 in about 2 hours playing black jack . He was playing three spot and betting $3000 to $7000 per spot. I won about $40 playing one spot at the $5 black Jack table two over from the one LF was at.

I use to work at Harveys casino at Lake Tahoe and the saying is. If you plan on spending $500.00 in the casino and you spend $500.00 its fun and you had a good time. If you plan on spending $500.00 and you spend $500.00+X there might be a problem.
