flamingo1562 Posted April 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2007 As first time cruisers we understand the difference between an inside, outside, window, porthole, balcony, suite etc. But what we are confused about is what the difference is between the various cabin categories For example we are booked in cabin 6442 a category 8A for our sailing next year on "Carnival Freedom". What do the number and the letter stand for and what is the difference between let's say an 8A/8D or 8A/5A. Does the number corespond to the deck you are on and the letter the type of cabin? Just wondering, we've seen so many postings inquiring about moving from one category to another. Is there a list somewhere that we can look at that explains the difference? celbercrz333 Posted April 4, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2007 I would check the Carnival website or see if an e-mail address or phone number is on it so you can ask them. Who better to know the answer than Carnival themselves?
Plant Posted April 4, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 4, 2007 Here's the link to Carnival's site telling about the staterooms on the Freedom: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Staterooms/Freedom-Staterooms.aspx The difference in 8A/5A is that 8A is a balcony, 5A is an oceanview with portholes. Generally, the higher the letter the more desirable the stateroom. This is not always true (at least for us!). We like to book a cabin on a deck that's between two other passenger decks (it's usually quieter). The deck number will be the first number of your cabin. 6442 will be on passenger deck 6 (cabin 1442 would be on deck 1, cabin 1122 would be on deck 11). Have a wonderful cruise wherever you end up :) !
cherylandtk Posted April 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2007 Flamingo, every cruise line is different, but on Carnival, the number is the type of cabin and the letter is the grade within that type. So all 8's are balconies, and the only difference is location from A-E (or whatever is the last letter on your ship).
firefly333 Posted April 5, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2007 ...let's say an 8A/8D or 8A/5A. For what it's worth a 5A is a obstructed OV (ocean view), I think some 5As might have port holes, depending on the ship. The smaller Canival ships for instance will upgrade you on a sale from 4A (inside lowest deck) to a 5A, which has port holdes. I think they call them Fantasy class ships or something, the smaller older ones. The best 6s, on a Conquest class ship are the ones on the spa deck which have floor to ceiling windows. They are built to hold 4 people, but 2 can get them. 6s, are ocean views. See Carnival is pretty easy to understand unlike some others.
flamingo1562 Posted April 5, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted April 5, 2007 ;) Thanks all, You've all been a big help. We also posted this thread out on the Carnival Cruise Line forum and got a great deal of information from fellow cruisers. Check it out. Again thanks for all your help.
