Do any of you world travelers have a good recommendation on inexpensive hotels or B&B's in Rome. Looking for something close to the Train Station. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Suggest you check out the "Trip Advisor" site. We found the Hotel Santamaria and absolutely loved it. It was just around 200 euro and located in the Trastevere district but you can surely find what you are looking for on this site.

Here is one: http://rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d518658-Reviews-Hotel_Domus_Praetoria-Rome_Lazio.html

here is the general listing of hotels:

have a great trip!

The venere dot com website has little maps with different areas highlighted.....that way you can see if a hotel is near the station....why do you want to stay there? It isn't all that lovely and it is a bit of a hike to most attractions. Stayed last spring at the Hotel Ponte Sixto which was 5-10 minutes from several interesting places. Be sure you get a room with AC - even if it's not hot, it will be noisy due to the constant buzz/roar of traffic in Rome.

I too would suggest looking in Trastevere, or across the river around the Campo dei Fiori. This area of central Roma allows you to walk everywhere you will want to be, and is really amongst the most beautiful of Roman neighborhoods.

The area around Termini is by far less interesting and does not at all give you the same feeling for Roma. If you need to get to Termini, taxis are very easy in Roma or even the Metropolitana, (underground) depending on where you are in the city.

We booked the Golden Hotel for October pre-cruise, based on trip advisor reviews. no bargains in Rome with the euro at $1.35. a 2* hotel for 3 nights 516 euros. we are hoping for the best. we figure the wind surf cruise will make up for any disappointments in our Rome accomodations.

If you want an undiscovered, very local place to stay in Trasevere with awesome rooms, a fantastic location, and priced around 200 euro per night look at http://www.leclarisse.com/inglese/le-clarisse.htm We live in NYC and travel to Rome for business 5-7 times per year and always stay at the Clarisse. The staff is wonderful. Remember, you are staying like a local, not in a touristy hotel. Supermarket is one block away. GREAT food is minutes outside your door.
