KIDS SMELL & SEWAGE GONE WILD ??

Oh....the other way around......Ok....that's different, I guess.

I'm sure glad in our 20+ cruises we've never encountered this "sewage smell" some people complaign about. AND BELIEVE ME I KNOW SEWER SMELL.....THAT'S WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING. :) yes we've had a couple toilet problems....but never some sewage smell permeating the hallways.

We were on the Triumph a couple years back and had a great time.

That said...Spring Break can be a hit or miss time to cruise and I would not judge cruising on that single experience.

I usually don't find the 13 to 17 years olds (usually busy socializing) to be anywhere nearly as bad as the young kids allowed to Run (and I do mean "Run") wild .....

The cabins with the smell were 6380, 6382 ,2374 and a couple more that they do not remember the cabin numbers.

What the heck were they doing running from door to door smelling where this odor was coming from?

I do beleive that the kids were running amok throughout the ship and totally unsupervised, we had the same problem with the Teens onboard the Spirit last week, but going as far as saying that they were buying drinks and playing slots, is pretty far fetched. Sounds like they came onboard already feeling negative from what others were telling them in the past about Carnival.

Still at work. I just posted what they told me, they were in my office while I was posting. They can not join CC because they do not own a computer and I won't let them use mine. I posted this because I did a lot of resherch for them on this site and they asked me to post for them. They have children and grandchildren and are not children haters. They just do not like unruley and unsupervised children. The cabins with the smell were 6380, 6382 ,2374 and a couple more that they do not remember the cabin numbers. Sorry if the post upset some of you, but the fact of the matter is these folks spent thier money on something that did not live up to thier expectations. I have never been on a cruise I didn't like and have only encountered small problems that in no way ruined my vacation. Folks, have a good day, I'm going to punch out and have semi foo foo drink. Thank-you.

It really is to bad that they picked such a bad time to go. I don't like to cruise when there are more under 21 than over. I did do the spring break with my kids once and that was enough. I choose to go after school starts, between T-day and Christmas and again the first of the year. It is cheaper and an older crowd. Also TA's have fewer, better behaved children also.

I returned from a cruise a couple weeks and was told by my daughter afterwards that she had no problems getting served alcohol. The only person carded seemed to be the person paying for the drinks. ie. If she didn't try to pay, she got served every time. She tended to make many friends while she was having a cigarette and they would offer to buy her a drink. She never got drunk, but she was drinking.

She is 20 and close to being 21 and was responsible on the ship.

I'm sure she was quite responsible, in that "hanging around, having a smoke and waiting for someone to buy her a drink" kind of way.

I didn't notice any smells, either. I just wonder who comes up with these posts..

I have no doubt that the OP's people smelled a foul odor. It makes no

sense for someone to just make up a statement like that. Others have

complained of sewerage smells before and I have occasionally smelled

it on our cruises. Just because the smell is not EVERYWHERE on the

ship doesn't mean it cannot happen:eek: They were just letting people

know what they encountered.

They definitely chose the wrong week as far as lot of kids. Did the OP,

who recommended the cruise, warn them about the many kids on

spring break?

"There was also alot of under age drinking at all bars(remember these are 2 bartenders who are trained at spotting underage people in a bar)"

I was not on this cruise so can't say for sure, but sometimes looks can be deceiving. I am 38 and still get proofed very frequently. When I am out with my kids (11 & 5) I am asked if I am babysitting. :) Its even worse when I am with my best friend who is 26 and looks 16, she is a mother of 3.[/quote]

Uh, don't you mean "it's even better?":D

No one is making this up,I just posted what I was told by them. They took this cruise because the sister of one of them was on this cruise and it was a suprise as the sister knew nothing about it until she saw them on the lido deck. They had no negitive feelings going into the cruise only the highest of excepations, they even kept a countdown on the board at the bar. The reason they knew about the smell in other cabins was because they were part of a group of 14 couples spread out over the ship. As for why I have thier comment cards is because they made out two of them, dropped one in the box and brought the other one home. Does anyone have the E-mail for Bob D.? It looks like I'm actually going to have to do some work today as I get ready for our beach blast weekend at the bar. Thank-you and have a great day.

I agree... I am 33 and constantly get carded. I have even got a few free drinks because of it. I just laugh and say how old I am, they say "ya right". I then say if I am 33 how about giving me a free drink. It works 50% of the time.

I am 45 and got carded last week at the liquor store. When the clerk looked at my ID he said "Wow, I thought you were only 28!" I said, "well, the drinking age is 21, so if I look 28 why did you card me?!"

Actually, I love it when that happens. It's rare, but I do occasionally get a clerk with a vision problem.:)

I don't think that the problem is with children being on board. The problem is that many children feel that once their kids are on a cruise, it is up to the cruise staff to supervise them. On the Easter trip on the Carnival Legend, by the end of the trip groups of kids were roaming around the ship with nothing to do. Because of this, many kids were vandalizing the ship, scrathing up the elevators and even disfiguring the wall murals. We saw kids dumping their ice-cream from the soft service machines on the buffet lines. Many kids would bring their food back to the rooms and then leave the dishes outside, so that by the end of the trip the halls became dirty and cluttered. The crew tried, but were unable to keep up with this.

Again, we like kids and have no problems with them on a trip. But anyone, whether child or adult, who goes on a cruise should regard the trip and the trip as a guest's property and respect it.

Back to the OP, I am sorry they had a bad experience. Sadly people do want to avoid a lot of children today, because of the fact that many (not all) are being raised by wolves.

And Carnival is one of the mass market cruise lines that should be avoided when school is out if you want to be around less children.

As for the smell, that can happen on any ship at any given time. In all our cruising, we have only gotten a "whiff" in a stairwell from time to time.

I do hope they will give cruising another change. Perhaps if you explain that a little more research will give them a better fit.

First of all dont blame the crusie line for the kids....WHERE WERE THE PARENTS????? Also if you go during spring break you have to expect kids period. I just got off the Carnival Valor last week. There where over 3000 guest and almost 1400 under the age of 18. As far as underage drinking goes, it happens everywhere.....at least they werent drinking and driving. It all comes down to making the crusie a good time regardless. I have cruised 23 times and always make it good no matter what.

NEVER GO DURING SPRING BREAK!!!

My daughter is 17, and we would never go on a cruise, or any other popular Spring Break destination at that time.

We usually go in June, when our daughter is out of school.

There's usually a lot of kids at that time, but not like Spring Break!

We went in May in 2005, and there were hardly any kids. My daughter wasn't too happy. She and her friend who we brought along did manage to make a few friends, but it wasn't like when we go in June.

If my dh and I try a new restaurant, and aren't crazy about it, we'll always go back and give it a second try!!;) Wouldn't most people?!

Try a different ship, at a different time of year. It could make a huge difference!;)

We just returned from the 4/8 sailing aboard the Victory. We brought our kids since it was Spring Break. I knew there would be tons of kids because of this. I told my kids several times to be respectful to others, people spent a lot of money for their vacation too and deserved to have a good time. Obviously, many other parents did not tell their kids anything close to this. I was run into so many times by kids playing tag and going wild. Kids were running into the elevator as soon as it would open instead of waiting for people to get out. It was Kids Gone Wild!!!! Not once did I see any Carnival employee enforce any kind of discipline. This didn't ruin my vacation it only made me appreciate my well behaved teenagers that much more!!!!! My advice to people traveling without kids...Do not go on vacation during Spring Break. It doesn't take a scientist to figure that out.

I too was on this exact same cruise. There were young HS kids, but I never really had a problem with them, I'm sure that some got served alcohol, and they were dancing! God forbid. In fact my wife even danced with some of them and their parents OUTSIDE of the casino on the last night. We found them to be a very nice group of people.

After spending alot of time on this board in preparation for our cruise, I quickly figured out that sometimes it might be best for some people to be hermits. :)

Just got off the Valor 04/08/07 Cruise. Yes, it was Spring Break and lots of children with families. In fact, I brought my friend from Delaware and his three boys for their first cruise. The pools and hot tubs were full of children as I knew they would be. But, I really enjoyed the cruise and head for the Triumph on 05/05/07.

Your Sail & Sign card prevents underage passengers from purchasing alcohol. Basically children can not purchase drinks on their Sail & Sign card! Now, if an adult pays for the drinks and gives them to someone underage then the adult is the problem! Don't blame the kids...........

"Not once did I see any Carnival employee enforce any kind of discipline."

So, it is up to Carnival now to discipline children while their parents are on vacation. Amazing blame Carnival not the parents.

After ten cruises under my belt I just learned this.

No Carnival should not have to discipline the children. They just need to enforce their rules........maybe that means disciplining the parents:D
