Proposition: RC will now let you buy a bottle & take it back to your cabin: how much?

I'd like to be able to have a few cocktails on our balcony while we cruise without having to go to a bar and order one to bring back. This is worth a few extra $$ to us. We don't even buy bottles on-board anymore - it was wonderful when we could take them back to our cabin.

 

The concierge lounge will be even busier now!!!

You don't have a low enough choice. I would pay $9-$12 plus the cost of the liquor to take it back to my room.

I opted for 15, especially if they had that first night special where you only pay one fee for all the bottles you want, I would stock up that night!

See, people, this is the problem. You are all too cheap. You want something for nothing.

 

Look at Shelley's prices. She marks up liquor store prices more than many of you say that you are willing to pay - but you are willing to use JBOY.

 

If it's not worth RC's while to do this again, they have no incentive.

 

Seriously reconsider your position.

 

If you really wouldn't pay AT LEAST $20 on top of the DUTY FREE CHEAP PRICES in the onboard store, you don't deserve to have the privilege restored!

I would definitely pay $20-$25 to be able to take a bottle back to my room. SERIOUSLY people! The prices you pay at the onboard shops are CHEAP......add $20-25 and you'd be paying about what you pay back home! I've bought in port to take back home.......I buy unique tequila bottles because I enjoy the pretty bottles as much as I do the tequila! lol Yeah...the port authorities made fun of me last week when I told them just that! ;)

 

I didn't realize they EVER let you....I've only cruised twiced though, and that was in the past 2 years!

But you see for me it is not worth it. I really dont care enough to pay much. My whole tab for the week, including the tips for all folks, dining room, cabin etc, on board purchases in the gift shop, etc, total on average a whopping max 200 dollars but on average about 150-175. I am a cheap drunk.. LOL Even when I have smuggled, I end up not drinking but a little of it while getting ready for dinner. I just dont care if I have drinks in my cabin, if I want one, Ill walk my butt to a bar and order a drink, take it back and sit back and relax while I enjoy it.

And that's the point, Nitra. You wouldn't smuggle in the first place, because it's not worth it. So you are not really a "candidate" for this program. ;)

 

This is meant to short-circuit the desire to smuggle.

 

If Royal Caribbean had a way for you to *legally* have a bottle in your room, and still make decent bucks, it could be a win-win. And there would be less-to-no incentive to smuggle, and IMO, full justification to really bust on people who try!

I was told by one of the people working in the store on board Rhapsody the reason they did away with the fee was because the cruiseline now contracts out the stores, like the spa, and thus it no longer makes money on those fees, it would go to the company that owns them. Before the line owned and operated the stores so they made the money on the fee. Not sure how much is true but I just had to ask him why they did away with this option.

 

I might just have to ask again and see if I get the same answer.. LOL I just have to ask these things sometimes. Drive my supervisor nuts when I ask questions all the time.. LOL I can tell cause she stops returning my emails and calls.. LOL

Yep they are! Maybe the liability issue was more than they wanted or something. Who knows what the suits think or how they come up with things. Sometimes they are so out of touch..

Somehow I doubt that this is the case or the reason. I believe that the liquor operation, just like the shops, casino and spas have been outside contractors for years, and, even if not, RCI could easily write conditions into the contract that would give it a portion of all the revenues generated by the sale of liquor including any fees that might be charged to allow guests to bring bottles back to their rooms. Liability concerns are the more likely reason and RCI wants to be able to say that they have taken all reasonable measures to restrict and control the consumption of alcohol onboard. If you want to blame anyone, blame those out of control idiots that gave ammunition to the television networks that broadcast those scenes of drunken, mostly underage cruise passengers in their "exposés".

Hey I am just telling you what was told to me by a guy that I have seen in that shop for years. I have been cruising on the Rhapsody for awhile. Ill be on there again in a couple weeks, if I get down there, Ill ask again. I dont always get in that store while on board.

I voted that I wouldnt pay anything. I dont spend enough time in my cabin to drink anyway and the times I am in the cabin, whether it be getting ready for dinner, changing, waking up in the morning before anyone else, etc. I dont need to be drinking. If I want a drink, I'll get it at any of the million bars, but I dont feel an absolute need to drink that bad that I need to have it in my cabin and not in a bar somewhere.

I would easily pay $20 bucks if I wanted the service. I have actully paid more on Celebrity for a similar service where they offered a liquor package that includes the liquor and some mixers ( like 3-4 cans of coke, giner ale, etc.). I think I paid $45 which included the liquor and mixers plus their fee/profit. It was a fair amount of liquor and at $5 per drink made more than 8 drinks.

 

I loved it. Did it cost more than I wanted to pay, yes, but then again, I wanted it, so I paid the money. And I really ENJOYED it! When I arrived, the stuff was in our room too!:)

 

I think that is the type program RCL should adopt.
