Bringing Beer

Recommended Posts

You can call the Bon Voyage department and order it to your room before you cruise....or call JBOY - and have it delivered to the ship. Check the threads there is lots of info on this.... "pre ordering liquor to your room" is one of the threads.

Hope this helps

On my last cruise in May we decided to try to get liquor on board because it was our wedding cruise and we intended to really celebrate all week. I have been on 7 cruises pior and never tried this, but it works. We packed liqour in their original bottles (the plastic kind) and had no problems at all. it saved us LOTS of money. My husband drinks absolute on the rocks- $14.00 a drink!!!!! That really adds up quick! We still spent many at the bars while by the pool and in the casino but saved a lot too. I just recommend putting it in your bags that will be delivered not the bags you are taking on yourself....those bags go through several xrays and are randomly checked by the port security. I am uncertain if the other bags are ever really xrayed.... It is worth a shot if you want to save money.

Have heard a couple references to bringing the same type of beer as is available on the ship. Since I'm new to cruising could someone let me know what they serve on Princess or Caribbean Princess in particular?

My original plan is pick up some Bud aluminum bottles and pack in checked luggage.

Thanks

I've been on the Caribbean Pruncess twice, and in both cases, I carried a soft-sided cooler filled with beer cans right onboard, and placed it on the x-ray belt. No problem.

Now, it's important to note that they can prohibit you from bringing beer onboard, so you may chose this practice if you don't mind the risk.

They served bud light on deck in the 12-oz cans, and the larger aluminum bottles.

The bucket deal (buy 5 get 6) is a fair deal for bottled beer,

but I'm fairly sure that this price doesn't reflect the aluminum bottles.

Princess' own site lists the following brands available for delivery to your room, and premium priced of course:

Becks, Becks Light, Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, Dos Equis, Miller Genuine Draft, and Miller Light.

Items #2310 $20.75 which works out to around 4 bucks a beer including the 15% gratuities.

Canned beer is far easier to carry on, but the aluminum bottles have the same advantage I suppose.

Rationalize your chances of losing your carry on stock, and just try it... don't get too upset if they confiscate it though... at best, it's a calculated risk.

Perhaps, it's the obvious way in which I submitted the soft sided cooler for x-ray, or just luck, but I'll be doing the same thing in a little over a week on the Caribbean Princess, once again.

If the beer gestapo get me, I'll repost when I return, otherwise you can assume no change.

I know this is about beer, but thought it was an amusing alcohol related story...

We bought 2 boxes o'wine to take on board NCL Pride of Hawaii, planning to pay corkage fee of $15 per bottle. Just wanted the convenience of something to enjoy in the cabin before/after dinner. Got to the check-in, told them about the wine and were told to go to the table over to the side and pay our corkage fee. We handed the (very young looking!) guy our wine and waited while he checked, re-checked, and re-re checked his lists and our wine. Eventually he turns to us and says laughingly: "wow, you guys beat the system - no corks. I don't know what to charge you." He puts the little stickers on both boxes and sends us on our way - no charge. Oh, and the boxes were 3 and 5 litres - 8 litres total. Should have paid $15 per 750 ml.

BTW - also packed a plastic bottle of white rum in a suitcase - no problem.

Happy smuggling :D.

.....I had to share this experience.

My Dad is a vigorous 84 year old. He loves his beer and won't pay ship prices.

Holland America lets you bring wine aboard, but beer is forbidden.

In St. Thomas, USVI, the ship docked at Havensight.

Dad was one of the first off the ship, *walked* to a grocery store over a mile away.

Slung a two-four of Red Stripe on his shoulder.

Walked back to the ship's gangway, waved at the security guys, and breezed on past. No problem.

Probably only works for geezers who can freeze young bucks with an icy glare.

Oh I love that.

and it reminds me of that quote I recently shared, over on the Cunard board,

but here it is again for you guys....

Youth, Beauty and Strength

are NO substitute for

Old Age, Treachery and Deceit!

Something about your spritely Dad triggered the above 'pearl of wisdom'

I know this isn't beer, but if you want to save bou coup dinero, buy a cheap two liter bottle of soda and dump it out! Now buy your favorite bottle of liquor. Make sure it's a Sprite/7up bottle if it's a clear liquor and any Coke bottle will do for your favorite whisky or Rum.

This saved us major $ on our cruise. All fruit juices are free, so you can make any mix you choose! Of course you will buy the occasional drink at the bar and a fine glass of wine with your meal, but when it comes to party time, you've got it covered! Good luck and enjoy your cruise!!!

Two years ago I used a company out of Miami that delivered a Bon Voyage gift pack directly to my cabin.

It was 2 twelve packs, a styrofoam cooler and two Carnival Cuzzies.

If memory serves me right, it cost about half of what it would have cost buying them on the boat.:D

I brought beer onboard before in my luggage. I prefer the 16oz plastic bottles you can get (made for the beach). Funny thing is, I brought them on one time and the crew said something to me (about how they didn't sell them onboard) and the next cruise I went on they had them for sale!

The only one company that is still doing gift baskets down South is Wellwishers. I only do Port Canaveral.

Always

Shirley

I am cruising out of Port Canaveral in June and would like to contact Wellwishers....do you have a number or email address:confused:

what would be considered excess beer. we are cruizin with 7 people and I had plans of bringing one lg empty luggage bag and putting 2 cases of beer in it with luggage tags will also bubble wrap them. Will this work. Love the idea of the soda 12 pack but that will get a little heavy for me.
