Question on Avis Car Rental in Skagway be 5/15/2007?

Hello,

 

I want to make Avis car rental reservation on 5/10/2007.

 

Does any one know how to make Avis car rental reservation in Skayway before 5/15/2007?

 

I call their local phone: NO ONE answer the phone

Avis Rent A Car

(907) 983-2247

 

I call their 1800 230-4898

Can not make reservation on 5/10/2007 since Avis car rental office is not open until 5/15/2007

 

Also,

I try avis.com

same thing happen, NO reservation allow on 5/10/2007

 

Any suggestion?

Sounds to me like AVIS is not open until mid May. If that is the case you will not be able to rent a vehicle from them. There are other ways to venture outside of Skagway - completely up to you and your personal preference. Sourdough car rentals might be an option (not sure when they open for the season) or you can always book an excursion on the train or a bus into the Yukon.

They aren't open yet, so you simply can't get a car.

I will look into a bus/train tour for our Skagway visit on 5/10/2007.

Season for Avis this year is May 15- Sept 15. You will not be able to get a car outside of this timeframe.

Even thought the Skaqway office is closed until May15th it is still possible to rental a car from them. The Avis Sitka Office, which is over the Skagway office, is open, their number is (907) 983-2247. They may be able to have a car in Skagway available for you. I was able to reserve one for the 14th.

As North2Alaska said, it is indeed possible to rent a car from Avis, before May 15 in Alaska.

I would certainly give it a try.

I was able to RESERVE a car last year, however it's for 5-15 which is the first day the Avis is open for business.

I called Sitka Avis, they told me that NO cars were available in Skagway before 5/l5/07. (we will be there on 5/9/07)

 

I rented previously from Sourdough and don't recommend it.

 

This year we will take the White Pass Railroad tour.

I rented a car from Avis for Skagway several weeks ago. Simply go to avis.com. It's easy and no credit card is required to reserve. I think the largest car they offer is the Impala. I do know they don't have any SUV's at the Skagway location.
