music lady Posted April 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2007 When you book a guarantee cabin with Hal, about when do you find out what cabin you are assigned? We booked a G outside. We sail 5/19. Mary D
Desdemona01 Posted April 24, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2007 when we booked guarantees we usually found out about a week before--the cabin number showed up on the online immigration form. I have read here that some people haven't found out until they get to the pier. have a great cruise!
RuthC Posted April 24, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2007 Normally, guarantee assignments are made at the 1-2 weeks before sailing mark. Sometimes it's a bit sooner, and other times it's a bit closer. My first guarantee was made at the 9-days before sailing point; the second was about 2 weeks before. I don't remember on the third. I have heard reports that sometimes you don't know until check-in! Keep checking the HAL website Immigration page. When your assignment is made it will be reflected there. And have a nice cruise! :)
caviargal Posted April 24, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2007 I have been checking for my upcoming 5/27 cruise and choose to believe the later the better:). Since the ship is sold out, it will be interesting to see if we receive a phone call or a cabin assignment.
music lady Posted April 24, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted April 24, 2007 Why would you get a phone call if the ship was sold out? Mary D
caviargal Posted April 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2007 They sometimes play "Lets Make a Deal" when they need a specific type of cabin and one is willing to accept an alternate ship or sailing date.
ak-bound Posted April 24, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2007 We booked a VH guarantee for the Noordam 5/20 to Alaska and got a cabin number posted on the online form last Friday (upgraded to a VB!). I think the time varies tremendously. Just keep checking your online immigration form. Zane

LadyLeo84 Posted April 24, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 24, 2007 Music Lady; We had gotten a SZ guarantee for May 12th sailing on the Oosterdam. We received our cabin assignment last Thursday the April 19th. We ended up with a SS on the Navigation deck. There are some others on the same ship as ours that got their assignment on April 5th. I just kept checking online several times a day to see if that "GUAR" had changed to a numer - and finally it did! I can relax now and just enjoy getting ready for our upcoming cruise. cruznon Posted April 25, 2007 #11 Share Posted April 25, 2007 Usually, the later your cabin is assigned, the better. Hang in there....

Radiomark Posted April 26, 2007 #13 Share Posted April 26, 2007 We booked a guarantee B Verandah on Statendam in January. We got our cabin assignment 2 or 3 weeks later. I'm assuming that we're not going to get upgraded, but we still have a very nice cabin. Mark
music lady Posted May 1, 2007 Author #14 Share Posted May 1, 2007 Finally! We booked G outisde guarantee and got E outside, both on the Main Deck on Maasdam. E is behind the G section, so I guess it isn't much of an upgrade. It does seem to be a little bigger though. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. LEtue Posted May 1, 2007 #15 Share Posted May 1, 2007 There are 8 of us sailing on the Oosterdam 5/26 sailing and we still have VH guarantees. Should be soon :)
NHCruisr Posted May 1, 2007 #16 Share Posted May 1, 2007 We're sailing on the Amsterdam on May 25. We had a B guarantee and got cabin assignments yesterday - April 30. We're now in a mid-ship A cabin. We're happy with how the guarantee turned out. Of course if they want to bump us up to a full suite we'd be happy too! Mary D The biggest difference is that you go from having on a porthole or two to having a nice big window.
music lady Posted May 1, 2007 Author #18 Share Posted May 1, 2007 After giving it some thought, I am happy with the upgrade. The E cabin is a little bigger and having a big window is so much nicer than a porthole. Mary D
fatcat04 Posted May 1, 2007 #19 Share Posted May 1, 2007 My mom and dad sail on 5/12 (on a sold out cruise) and we got their cabin assignment 4/30, so that would be 13 days out. So I am thinking 7-14 days is a good guess. :)
