Yes! Our first military discount, after 6 cruises-slow learners-it took these boards to teach us!!!- was also our 1st with stockholder credit. Plus they upgraded our outside room to a spa deck family room. AND the casino host decorated our room and sent us a fruit basket. THANK YOU CARNIVAL! Happy sails and tons of discounts and on board credits to you :) :) :)

It also depends on how much stock you intend to buy. I live on my stocks and often buy in the thousands of shares, even a few pennys difference in price can be hundreds of dollars.

I dont have any other income except for my stocks, so every little bit is important.

that's what we're shooting for:D in our wildest dreams lol.

Smiling Cruiser - thanks! might be the push DH needs to purchase, sure would up the annual yield on the stock.;)

If you buy the stock thru a broker you don't get the "actual stock". I would only get a statment showing what I hold.

What do you need to show to Carnival to show you hold the stock?

I always just mail them a copy of our statement and I black out all the other stocks, amounts etc which are none of their business. We have never had a problem!

I emailed it, Im a internet junkie I guess, snail mail is too slow.

You can attach the PDF of your account if you have it. I did two screen prints to show the purchase and showing it in my account with my name, account # etc.

I also put the booking #, my # with Carnival etc and all other contact info into the email.

Does anyone know if you have a couple thosand shares, if it would help with a upgrade?

I don't know about that....but you can "pretend" your dividends are an extra OBC!! :)

  • 2 weeks later...
Does anyone know how long you have to own the stock before you can use the stockholder shipboard credit?????

I sent for credit the day I bought the stock. 1 day? 1 hour, 10 minutes..take your pick. you just are supposed to still own it when you cruise.

Something i noticed-

Cruises for next summer went up $40 or so per person. RCL cruises also went up, with a june inside room on the AOS going up from $869 to $999:eek:

This suggests that demand is up.More demand= more profit= stock will go up.

They will report earnings at the end of this month, I bet the stock will spike upwards.

You are only looking at the revenue side. You are ignoring the expense side. While higher revenues in any business is a positive, if those higher revenues do not cover higher costs profits will decline. I wouldn't suggest using fare quotes for next year as indicative of corporate performance. ;)

(I'd still buy 100 shares, for a regular cruiser the dividend and OBC is worth it alone)

Ok, I am trying to keep up with this thread.

I have OBC from groups and from stock. They combined it with no issues.

I have $100 sitting on my sail and sign account for my cruise in 3 weeks. Are you saying this money is marked a certain way and I will not be able to use it for tips?

If so, not a big deal, I just normally do not spend a lot on the ships because I have been going so often. I just figured I'd use $70 of it for tips and blow the other $30 on something from the on board stores.

Also, they credited my four cruises in one day. I thought that was pretty quick.

Carnival is a great "wiggly" stock. It goes up and down all day long by about a buck. If you have the cash to buy a lot of shares you can make quite a bit on it.

Last year it started going up around Feb and peaked in the summer. I guess people were sick and tired of winter and started booking their summer cruises :)

From what I understand you would of needed to buy the stock on August 21st in order for it to be processed on the 24th for dividend. Is that how everyone else understood it? It was one of the days I actually held it for more than a few hours. I totally forgot about the dividend (newbie mistake I guess).

With etrade I just have to buy it by 8/24/07. I have heard of cases where you have to own before the date of record.

MIAMI, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- On July 17, 2007, Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL) (NYSE: CUK - News) announced a quarterly cash dividend of 35 (U.S.) cents per share. The dividend is payable on September 14, 2007, to shareholders of record on August 24, 2007.

i.e. if you sold before the eod on Friday the 24th, you were not the owner of record, so you don't get the dividend that will be paid on 9/14.

If you were short you can wind up owing the dividend to someone in some cases....stocks with dividends are sure not my bag for options.

Let's hope they took that record at around lunchtime on the 24th then because I sold it right before closing - oops
