We are on Constellation & do not have Boston or Maine (anymore) In Newport we are doing a highlights tour with a mansion. After that lunch & shopping on our own & I'd like to see the historic Touro synagogue & churches in the old part of the town Hope the weather is good to us!

We are going on the Grand on 10/3 and I am prereserving my excursions. I would appreciate any pros and cons on my choices.

Bar Harbor - Whale watching 8:30 - 12:00

Acadia Park & Rinehart Pavillion 1:30 - 4:30

Boston - City sights & duck tour 8:30 - 11:00

Fenway Park 1:00 - 4:30

Newport - Doris Duke's Rough Point 9:00 - 11:00

Vanderbilt's Newport 12:45 - 4:15

( Marble House & Breakers)

I should add that we are looking for relaxing and light activity excursions.

Thanks all

We are on the Grand sailing tomorrow the 12th. I rented a car for halifax, will tour St Johns.. and I have set up a tour for Acadia via Dick Cough for 20.00 per person for a 2.5 hour tour.. to go at 2 pm and he gave me the number for the folks that do the whale watching tours like at 8 30 am. So I will call them to set that up as well

Boston, I have a friend that will pick us up.. take us to fenway.. tour that etc, then Newport.. we thought the Astor Mans is what we wanted to do. I just want to know the least expensive way to get to the mansions is all

Thanks

We will be on a cruise stopping in Boston and Newport in October. How does one do the Fenway Park tour? Is there a web site, etc.

Also we plan to do the Cliff Walk in Newport. Is Doris Duke's Rough Point Mansion on this route? Were is it located in relation to the Cliff Walk?

Thanks

Copied from my reply to an earlier question on Cliff Walk:

Will we be seeing any of the views that are seen directly on the Cliff Walk

On any of the mansions that face the ocean, if you go out on the back lawn and walk towards the ocean, you will eventually come to a fence that separates that property from Cliff Walk, and from that fence you will be able to see the views. I was not with a tour group when I did this; so once the mansion tour was over, I was able to tour the grounds. With a tour group on a set schedule, this may be a problem.

Has anyone walked the whole Cliff Walk? If so how long did it take and how rough did it get?

Yes, twice; 2-3 hours

Very rough!!! From http://www.cliffwalk.com/mapsouth.htm

(referring to the southern end of the walk) This section of the walk is also the most difficult. This part of the walk is not paved or leveled; you follow a path when there is one and make your own when there is none; you climb, you jump from boulder to boulder. I was going to describe it more, but look at the pictures here (they do it better than I ever could):

Added 9/14/04:

Make sure to read The Top Ten List for Cliff Walk "Adventurers" in the link to sect6 above.

The Doris Dukes mansion is at the southern end of Cliff Walk (as answered by HPINE1); it is located in the rougher part of the walk; there is a pic in the sect6 link above; remember you can not enter the property from Cliff Walk. If you wish to tour it, here is a link for info and tickets:

if you really want to get a feel for the terrain at the southern end of the walk, go to South Map with 360 Panoramas at http://www.cliffwalk.com/360/360SouthMap.htm

and click on the Red Hot Spots
