Inside cabin questions?

We always have a future cruise credit to book our Princess cruises. A lot of times, the onboard credit we get for the FCC makes up for the difference between an inside cabin and an obstructed view. Occasionally we have ended up paying less after taking the difference in onboard credit into account.

But we'll take an inside cabin to save a bunch a money. What we save on our cabin we can use to splurge on shore excursions, the Chef's Table, or other treats.

We are taking the Aug 18 cruise to Alaska north bound on the Diamond Princess. I booked the cheapest room ,which is on the Plaza deck. I did not want to spend the money on a balcony, I would rather spend it on the excersions. Also I don't think we will be in our room that much.

I just made my final payment. And have my room assignment . Can any one tell me how this location is. I am 2 decks down from the other cabins. Would it be possible to upgrade at this point for a an inside cabin a little further up. Is there a disadvantage to being this far down. This is our first Cruise and I am hoping it goes well so my husband will want to go again. Thanks for any insight.

If you are on the Plaza Deck, you will Love it! We loved being so close to everything when we had cabin there!

We will have an inside on the Plaza deck on the Golden tomorrow and we are really looking forward to being so close to the International Cafe. I may never bother to hike all the way up to the Horizon Court to eat! My teens want their own coffee card.

If wanting to get an inside cabin on the Plaza Deck, we suggest doing two things, based on past (partially unfortunate experience):

1. Check the layout of the deck above you. Do not take a cabin that is below the casino. We were awakened at 2:00 or 3:00 on at least three mornings by extremely loud and slow dragging or rolling of something across the floor. Our first complaint did not get the problem solved (which turned out to be removal of heavy cash boxes above inside cabins).

2. Unless you make a habit of going to bed after midnight, do not take one of the inside cabins that are close to the piazza. On at least one night, a band was playing incredibly loud music in the piazza after 11:30 p.m., so loud that it woke us up.

This total of four or more seriously damaged nights of sleep occurred during a twenty-night stay aboard a Princess vessel in 2009 (back-to-back ten-night cruises). Fortunately, the cruises had many positive aspects that partially offset the described problems.

It's for reasons such as your experiences that we decided not to spend a little bit more to move to a Plaza deck oceanview which was a little bit more than our Caribe mid-deck inside cabin on our upcoming cruise. It was under the Princess Theater & I heard from several reliable sources that it would be noisy. We always look at what surrounds our cabin particularly what's above us before booking our cabin and to get near midship because my wife feels the motion of the ocean. ;)

With that said, we are going to Alaska this summer (in July) on the Dawn Princess and we also opted to NOT get a cabin with a balcony - we'll have an outside cabin as I can't live without some natural light. I guess there are some who swear a balcony is a must in Alaska, but we sailied aboard the Star Princess a few years ago to Alaska in a balcony and never spent much time there - way too cold when the ship was sailing to enjoy it and the views of the glaciers were much better from the deck.

That was our experience, too. I'll never pay for a balcony on Alaska cruise again. I'd rather it was OV.

Most of the time now I get an interior in the center of the ship (stable) with cabins above and below (quieter). I like to be near the elevators and I've never heard their noise, either. Very convenient.

We were in this same location when we were on the Golden. We had an inside room on the Plaza deck. I loved the location. I've had cabins on many different decks and this was my favorite location.

Going up to a different deck in an inside cabin really doesn't get you anything more. The cabins on this class of ship are identical no matter which deck you are on and you will feel less motion on the Plaza deck.

We were on the Diamond in June and loved her. Cruise was great, staff was friendly and helpful, food was very good. We really enjoyed our cruise on the Diamond.

One thing to keep in mind tho, Alaskan cruises are different than Caribbean cruises. Its more about the scenery and wildlife. Keep that in mind if you decide on a future cruise.
