Carolyn&Phil Posted June 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2007 Can anyone tell me about Henderson's Cave Tour in Barbados? It appears to be about 2 1/4 hours long. Any information, pro or con, would be much appreciated.:) Phil
cinnam0n Posted June 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2007 When are you planning on being there? I understand it is currently closed for renovations (was open temporarily in April for the World Cup) and not scheduled to reopen until close to the end of this year. You can get contact info on their website (http://www.harrisonscave.com) to find out more details from them. You can also check out the earlier thread about when it is going reopen. Aplmac Posted June 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2007 Harrison's Cave in the center of the island, so you'll get a decent tour/drive as you get there. Entrance fee is US$20 a person...you sit in a trolley car to be driven thru the cave, and back out. Don't think they like visitors getting out, much or touching anything, but you can see LOTS as you're driven thru. It's a lovely living cave, as a geologist friend explained to me in that it still has running water all through it ('dead'caves are dry) - still in the process of carving the cave! Lighting is well thought out, and Harrison's Cave is, by far, Barbados' Number One Attraction, so you shouldn't be disappointed. And of course when you're done, you've got the drive back, so all things considered, plus maybe a bit of a wait to catch the next round of trolley-cars, yes the whole deal could be about 2-2.5 hrs.long. You're actually down in the cave for maybe 1/2 an hour? but like I intimated, much of the overall time is taken up with to-ing and fro-ing. Hope this helps. Aplmac Posted June 12, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2007 Harrison’s Cave Re-Opens! 29 Mar 2007 Closed for renovations since July 2006, Harrison’s Cave will temporarily reopen its majestic cavern from April 1 to May 5, 2007, to the general public. Just in time for Cricket World Cup, Ms. Brenda Edwards, acting Chief Executive Officer for Harrison’s Cave hopes to attract as many as 25 000 patrons attending this major event. According to Selwyn Smith, Chairman of Caves of Barbados, a great deal of time and effort has been invested in the redevelopment of Harrison’s Cave and the training of its staff. At present, efforts are focused on the completion of facilities needed to set the Cricket World Cup opening in motion, including the ground floors, interpretative centre, reservations section, souvenir shop and snack bar. -------------------- No (permanent) re-opening date as yet, but one would think/hope it'll be ready by November,2007 or so, for the Winter Season starting in December. zelker Posted June 18, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2007 We visited in November of 2005 and it was well worth the trip if you are at all into caves. Very interesting and the first one I had ever done that actually took you on a tram throughout the caves. Enjoy!
