Will I be carded all the time on the ship?

Ok. I am in my mid-twenties and I am short. I look young for my age and am getting constantly carded.

I am wondering, am I going to have to bring my ID everywhere I go on the ship-in case I may want a drink? Or do they give you something to show other than your ID to prove that you are over 21?

I am paranoid I will lose my ID then be SOL for the rest of the trip. Well I could go get a 2nd ID.

But can anyone tell me what the procedure is? I am going on the Carinval Triumph:)

Thanks!

I'm the same way. I look young for my age, even though I'm almost 23, and I did carry my dl with me just in case in most cases. I was never id'd but one waiter did refuse to use my s&s card and insisted on using my mom's because he thought I was underage. I probably should have pushed the issue and made him use mine or check my dl, but didn't want to make a big deal out of it. Your s&s card will be coded to show that you're of age, but I don't think it can hurt to have your id with you just in case. I figure that you're better safe than sorry!

I also don't look my age (22).

I wouldn't worry too much about this situation, unless you plan to drink and gamble for every waking minute on the cruise. I hope not :p

I don't really see how you can lose your ID, since it's basically what you carry on a daily basis (whether you're on vacation or not).

when you want a drink or gamble, show your ID before the person asks...just to get it over with.

Your S&S card should be all you need. I suppose a server may ask but it should not be an issue. I would not carry it around. Just make a couple of buddies that are servers the first day and then should be no problem. Their memories are unbelievable so it should be a non issue especially after the first day or so.

On Carnival, your age and other information is encoded on the magnetic strip located on the back of your Sign & Sail card...which is used for all purchases aboard the ship--in addition to being your room key.

If the bartender has any doubt that the card is actually yours, he/she may ask for additional ID. It wouldn't hurt to have your driver's license with you just in case.

some lines are now making thecards of those under 21 a little different than others so they can help bartenders tell the difference. I am 25 and got carded on the first day of our last cruise but that was it. All I carry is the seapass card and I have never had an issue...if it becomes a problem you may have to carry your ID with you

Makes no sense really you will have your ship card with you, which should be all you need but you should have your ID with you at all times on and off the ship along with the ship card. the a lanyard with the plastic holder if you must. though zipped pockets, Water wallets etc. all work too.

This is a new cruiser. All their questions should be answered. The OP didn't know about ship cards.. thus the inocent question.

I'll apologize to the newbie OP.

Yes I did not mean it that way but I see reading it now that it could be taken as a put down. to the OP I am sorry if it came across that way. No offense was intended.

I sail mostly Princess and Royal Caribbean so it may be different on these lines but I have been carded plenty of times. Sometimes the cruise card isn't sufficent since you could basically take anyone's card who is over 21. So I just carry my id at night when I'll be more likely to be going to a bar or the casino. I'm used to being carded (I'm 23 but could pass for 18 at times) so it's really no big deal for me. Also, I live in Vegas and work at a casino as a dealer and I card people quite a bit mainly to cover myself. I don't want to put my job at risk just because it's inconvenient for people to get their id out.

OT: At sea is the minimum age in the casino 18 or 21? I know the drink age used to be 18 if your guardian approved you but has since changed. I wasn't sure if the casino's age changed as well.

Celebrity has a different colored sign and sail card for those under 21 so you don't have to carry your ID.

But what is there to stop someone over 21 giving their sign and sail card to a 20 year old? If you look young, the bartender still has the right to ask for a photo ID.
