  • 2 weeks later...
TA called yesterday saying she had an aft suite, 9208 for $700. Said no. Researched the deck plans and saw it was owners suite. She called back later offering it for $400. Took it.

Some of the difference in the money here relates to the difference in the commission to the TA. They also get paid for the upsell, and can adjust their amounts downward too.

If you use a TA, give your TA an idea of how much you'd be willing to pay because the time it can take for your TA to contact you, for you to say yes or no, and for your TA to get back to the upsell agent can be the difference between getting the upsell and missing out. The upsell agent will not simply wait for your TA to contact you; he/she will simply move on to the next pax on the list.

This is not my experience... and I think it depends on the relationship between your TA and NCL. Mine called me, made the offer and I had the time to call the rest of my party, discuss it, and decide to purchase. I called back and couldn't reach my guy for what seemed like an eternity... but when we finally spoke - the offer was still there and so was the Courtyard Villa.

In some cases - they do wait, but I would still move fast if I wanted to be sure I got the category they were offering.

1) Norwegian Star

2) Months before sail date contacted - 1

3) Price - $300 ($150pp)

4) From what to what - From G (obstructed OV) to BA (highest balcony)

5) Did we take it - Of course

6) Was it worth it - Haven't gone yet, but since we now have a larger room and a balcony, I would say without a doubt

Lets see...

We booked on or about December 8, 2007 for PoAm on May 31, 2008

When we first booked we were in Ae/12008...

Someone on our honeymoon registry paid to upgrade us to AD/10016. That was done on January 29, 2008...

On February 19, 2008 we got a call offering an upsell to an owner's suite AA/12502 for an additional $800 p/p...

I booked through a TA and the offer was made by an email from NCL to my TA. My TA contacted me immediately and luckily I'm a technofiend and got her email immediately and was able to respond immediately. My TA said that they had offered the upsell to other people and it was first come first serve.

I absolutely took it. I think the benefits are huge!! Will I regret it? Well... when my credit card bill comes in --- YES.... but Im going to love every minute of it... we are getting married on May 30 and that is our honeymoon cruise!!!

Have any of you who have been touched by the upsell fairy been part of a group? I have a sinking feeling that the fairy only likes individuals. Is that correct? My departure is still still over 3 months away, and our date must be undersold because the price keeps going down. Does that make our chances of an upsell better, do you think? Or is that cancelled out by our group status?

Yeppers ... just got called today. I'm a TA and had this as a group from the beginning. Then, we decided to make it a *family only* cruise, but to change it over to a non-group was too expensive, so just left it as is. So, it's just DH and me, and our son, dil and grandbaby.

Today, Upsell calls and has the offer for both of our staterooms. We went from AEs to ABs. We are sailing May 28, 08, on a 12-day Jewel Baltics.

This will be an extravagance for DH and me, but it's perfect for the kids with the little one. That extra bedroom will be very NICE!

On the Sun to Alaska May '07 received a call for an upsell from an AE aft mini to a AC penthouse aft corner. Can't remember how far out but it was $500 total for the cabin. It was spectacular ! I am waiting for a call for a June sailing....

Got an upsell last week on the Gem, from AE aft to AA. It's our third upsell to an AA and I know it's worth it!!!!:D We were totally spoiled after the first upsell. This is our first time on the Gem, and I did turn down the first two offers they made on our upcoming cruise.

Good luck to everyone with their upsells, but be warned!!! It's tough to go back.... We had a mini suite on our last cruise and had a ball, we've been in insides, oceanviews and balconies. We've had a great time no matter where we were... Cruising is great!!!! :D

Yesterday I got a call from our TA with an upsale proposal. I cant remember what type of balcony cabin we had, but the upsale was to a garden villa. We are taking my Mother-in-law with my husband and I so there would be 3 of us in a cabin---so now we are really excited about being in a garden villa. The upsale was a total of 1000. From what I read it sounds totally worth the money. We are sailing on the Pearl May 18.:)

WOW, that's a great upsell. I've toured a garden villa, but never stayed in one. I agree with your statement that is seems totally worth the money. Enjoy.:)
