Am I the only person onboard who has no interest in "Quest"?

Recommended Posts

I am so glad I decided to read this thread as DH and I have never been to Quest. Heard alot about it and was thinking of going to it on the next cruise in January. But after seeing clips of it on UTUBE (never thought to look there) I won't be going, however I will make note of when it is and do something romantic with my DH instead. We haven't spent any time in the viking lounge so maybe we will see you there. I expect I won't be seeing the L&M either so I will be finding something else to do that night too where the crowds are scarce. We have joined the fuddy duddy club.

Bonnie, We had never thought we would be interested in Quest even after 32 cruises, but on our last one we decided to see what it was all about. We were right, we were not interested in it. We watched people with their bags of items they knew would be ask for as they had been there before. Truly, it was a waste of time and we will know better next time. I hope they come up with something of more interest to everyone. You are right, there are so many things more worthwhile to do on a cruise.

Personally I LOVE the Quest and will attend every one that I can..its the most fun and the MOST laughs guaranteed on my cruise:D -for me and that is IMHO...but as someone has said previously, "something for everyone" that's why there is a variety in the entertainment..you choose to go or choose to not go..everyone has their own likes and dislikes whether it be this, the casino, the shows etc

there's plenty of other things to pick from other than the Quest

do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do!

I don't know if we'd like it or not, we're either in bed asleep by that time (boring people here :o ) or up walking on deck.

We don't go to the production shows, the Captains parties, casino or smokey bars, either  I guess we're party poopers. Out of 12 cruises, I've only seen the belly flop contest once, been to one napkin folding class and have only hung out in the back of the room and guffawed at the "art" auctions.

The best part of a cruise  , you can do nothing and have a wonderful vacation :)

I couldn't agree more...we see some of the shows...and love bingo...but the beauty of a cruise is you can pick and choose.

We had an OS last cruise and loved spending family time together in the evening.

And don't tell anyone but we've NEVER seen a midnight buffet on ANY cruise.

Hopefully RCCl can get wind of this thread and think of some new ideas to intertain people.

Let's see so far most everyone would like to do away with Quest and for the Love and Marriage Game have only new cruisers do it which is a great idea or do away with it and find something new.

Any other things you don't like that need changed?

Sorry if I left anything else out but zipping through this thread (which has gotten to page 3 in no time) that's all I noticed so far that needed changed.

CJ :) :)

First of all there are more people in this world than on CC, and secondly why does the existance of Quest bother you so much you want it abolished? The bottom line it is late at night in a small lounge and no one is forced to go, I say abolish BINGO, I hate that game!

I am not bashing anyone, but there is plenty for all of us to do, no one has to attend anything that offends or bores them, and I for one do not feel the need to defend myself for liking it. I also think lying in the sun getting skin cancer is a waste of time, so we each have our own opinion, and each is as valid as the next one.:p

Now, if you want *my* idea of a waste of time and something that should be banished forever, it would be those HORRENDOUS "shopping talks"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more!:)

We went to one on our first cruise thinking the talk would be about things to "see" at the port! Realisation dawned very quickly and we snuck out!Diamonds International, that stupid stuff that changes colour in the sun and those "free" giveaways that we can't live without!! :D

My experience EXACTLY.

No Quest for us either. My wife and I are perfectly content walking the decks, or having a drink in a quiet bar, or just relaxing on our balcony. Not to say we "won't" go to a show or to the casino...but due to work, family obligations, whatever, we're always running for something...and a cruise is our chance to finally relax, reconnect, and remind ourselves how much we love each other.

I had also never been to the midnight buffet! That is, until my recent cruise on Freedom when my son BEGGED me to stay up and take him to see the midnight buffet. It was tough staying awake that long but I did it and we shuffled through the buffet with 3000 of our closest friends and said, "oooohhhhh and aaaaahhhhh" and then we struggled to find our way out of the crowded venue and went back to the cabin and went to bed. We didn't eat anything at the buffet. It was pretty, but I just am NOT hungry at midnight! Now I know what I've been missing all these years and I don't ever have to go again! :D I can add it to my list of things I don't really care for. Now, unlike many folks out there, I DO like the art auctions! I have a blast when I attend (and I attend most of them and stay the whole time). I enjoy looking at the pictures, but more than that I enjoy the "show" that the various auctioneers put on. Some of them are downright funny! (and some of them actually meant to be funny). Some of them do have some interesting tidbits to share about the artists and on occasion I do purchase artwork that I like (not as investment but because I just like it!) But I like to watch the little games that always go on at the art auction. I like to watch the auction "team" woo ;) the passengers that don't know what they are doing. And I like to watch the self-proclaimed "collectors" of art bidding on "priceless" Rembrandts  etc.. You see all sorts of fun stuff and have a few laughs, some cheap champagne, and you get a free piece of "art" at the end of it all. Some of the free "art" is actually very pretty and I have brought it home and matted and framed it and it is hanging on my wall as a wonderful souvenier of a great afternoon spent on some beautiful ship! Aaaahhh yes, cruising is the greatest vacation on earth! Where else can I be at the art auction while my husband is reading on the balcony and my son is on the flow rider and cruzincurt is playing craps and wrkfire911 is at Quest and....well you get the idea! :D

After seeing Quest and the Newly Weds game etc., so many times (9, I think RCCL cruises) we made a decision to switch cruise lines as the entertainment had become so repetitive.

Even the Ice Shows (which are fantastic) but having seen them on Navigator, Voyager and Mariner the novelty wears off.

We are on P&O's Oceana this Sunday

I have to laugh at that scenerio. . . Mrs Radio always asks " When will these Cruise Ships get rid of these Art Auctions ? " My response is simple. " They will never get rid of the Auctions as long as people go to them. . ."

That is the same with any activity on a Cruise Ship. The Auctions MUST make a significant profit for RCI. . .:D

You got that right! Profit, profit, profit! That is the bottom line! But, it's no different than the $5.00 hotdog you get at the ballpark! :D You ask yourself, "why do hot dogs taste better at the ballpark?" Could it be that for your $5.00 investment they have provided a finer quality of meat? Naaaahhhhhh, it's the fantasy that comes along with the hotdog that makes it taste so good! ;) Because for that brief moment in time you are once again a kid at a ballgame! :D That, in itself, was worth the $5.00! RCCL is in the business of creating a fantasy! I, for one, am more than willing to pad their profits to get my little piece of the fantasy!

I went on my very first RC cruise this past June on the Freedom. I was told my husband and I had to go to the Quest. No one told us what to expect, only that it was an adult scavenger hunt. I was told to bring a bag with whatever in it. Like a fool, I did this. I had everything from nail clippers to a qtip. I had no idea what it was.

We got to the Quest and I was the only one with a bag. I felt a bit foolish, but thought, "Well, I guess I will be the hero in this game." NOT!!! I had nothing that they were asking for.

Anyway, to get to my point: The entire thing was a surprise to me. I was shocked, and have never in my life laughed so hard. My husband and I had a great time. We had a group of CC friends that made it a lot of fun also. (of course they were the ones that had me carrying around that big bag)

I would definitely go again, as a matter of fact, I am looking forward to it. I did not realize that it was basically the same thing each time. I think I would get a little bored with that eventually. I do think they should change it up a bit, so it does not get routine.

I do not feel that they should do away with the Quest at all. I think there should be a great variety for all people. I never attend wine tasting etc, but I don't want them to do away with it just because it isn't something that I participate in. I think that if you don't like something, you just don't go, and let the people that do want to participate, go.

The give and take on this thread is great! It's nice that people can agree to disagree.

Our first Quest experience was kind of marred for me. We'd met a nice couple at one of the Trivia games, and the wife told us that we simply HAD to go to Quest and bring a bag full of stuff with us. Well, we went but did not bring the bag. She did. She kept reaching into the bag to get stuff out during the game, and I felt like our team was not playing fairly. We went to Quest on subsequent cruises, and even though we pretty much knew what was coming, we still participated and had a great time, thankfully due to the fact that only some of the game was similar to Quest on other ships. It seems that each ship does it a bit differently, so you really can't anticipate everything. I will probably go to Quest again, but I don't think DH and I will be as active a pair of participants as we've been in the past. I think I'd rather be a spectator next time.

As for the Love and Marriage Game, we were on the Carnival equivalent of this game back in 2001 (on a family reunion cruise, no less!) as the middle couple. I can tell you that (at least for that game) it was not scripted! I think they may have pulled the oldest married gentleman aside (at least that's what DH thinks he remembers) for one of the questions, but they sure didn't attempt to get the ladies to answer in any specific way. Only once in attending all of the Love and Marriage games that we've ever attended was it really pretty uncomfortable. On our last cruise (unfortunately another Carnival cruise), the most recently wed couple was two women celebrating their committment ceremony. The CD had no idea how to handle the situation. He didn't even try to alter the questions to fit, and everyone could easily see how uncomfortable he felt. That was the only time we'd ever attended that game and left feeling uneasy instead of in pain from laughing so hard.

We've never attended an art auction, because we thought it was going to be a boring, hard sell type of thing. Now, reading how much fun some of you have had at these, I guess we'll have to give it a try! Thanks for cluing us in!

I've never been to a wine tasting, but there is always a coupon for this in my Crown and Anchor booklet. I love wine and should really consider trying to make it to a wine tasting at some point! I think the wine tastings conflict with the art auction though. When I get tired of attending the art auctions I will switch to wine tasting! ;) I use to ALWAYS attend the main shows in the evenings but on my most recent cruise (Enchantment just a couple weeks ago) we did not go to ANY of the evening shows and I totally enjoyed having more free time to try new things! Sooner or later I suppose I will cycle-through every activity offered! :D On my very first cruise I tried like heck to do EVERYTHING there was to do! Of course, I failed miserably and exhausted myself in the process. I have since learned to pace myself and I also now realize that I don't HAVE to do everything every time and that some things I may NEVER do and that is okay too!
