Drew B Posted July 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2007 Do they have a new naturalist lecturing on the Alaska sailings now that Brent Nixon isn't there anymore? If so, do you recall the name? Was he/she good? Thanks!
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted July 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2007 How did you find out that Brent Nixon was no longer on Mercury? He was one of the highlights of their Alaska sailings.
Rare Lois R Posted July 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2007 Hi, :) I seem to recall a few folks saying Brent was disembarking Mercury....can't recall the exact time frame but I know I read something about it on here over the last couple of months. Maybe a search would help:) or someone who has been on the ship;)
kruisecat Posted July 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2007 Sadly, Brent disembarked right before our 6/22 cruise. I don't think the gentleman that lectured was a naturalist. His name is Dr. Kenneth S. Johnson and he is a geologist. We went to his first lecture "Alaska Part I" and I was quite surprised that it was a discussion based on the tectonic (sp?) plates and how Alaska was formed. Not quite what we expected. It was interesting and for those who live in LA you should know that in 75 million years you will be living in Alaska, but he didn't offer any information on the actual animals, environment, etc. We did not go back to any of his other lectures. Don't know if he was on for just one week or the rest of the season.
