Where to see turtles w/out a tour guide

I was wondering if you can see the turtles without going on a tour.

What beach is the best for that?

I've never done it

but I'm told it's the Colony Club/Coral Reef area

(there are prob. a few spots along the W.Coast)

Head for Holetown on the West Coast and go a mile beyond that.

It's on your left, heading out(North) that way.

You can freely access the shore at Folkestone Marine Park

and I'd ask there about turtles,I'm sure they'd know!

Colony Club's bay is the next one to the North of F'stone.

Maybe lot of those turtle rides go to the spot by boat

and so avoid any Private Property security issues

(this area is on the Gold Coast....you understand..)

We went on SilverMoon.

The guides lured the turtles to come close to us with food.

Without the guides I do not think we would have seen any turtles.

I'm curious,Bob...

what did the guys as 'food' to lure them closer??

Bits of flying fish,maybe?

I know sea turtles eat seaweed,

and will happily munch the stuff from mooring buoys(where it grows well)

but I suspect fish would be much more of a 'draw'!

Yes, I suspect Bob's right about needing a guide to spot them,

since they should know turtle routine, preferences, favourite feeding-spots etc.

Of course if you see a turtle-spotting activity already in progress,

it should be a simple matter to drift right over with your snorkelling gear

and "crash the party" as it were..(nicely,of course)
