maggiecharlie Posted August 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2007 Does the captain back in or does he pull in forward when in St. Thomas and St. Maarten? Trying to decide which is the best side of the ship to be on right or left. Would like to see the towns from my balcony room. I know the Navigator of the Seas Captain when we were in those ports always backed in. :)
Vicariously Cruising Posted August 11, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2007 Must tell you that the Captain will decide when he gets there. It is usually decided by weather, current, other ships at dock, and sometimes just what mood he is in at the moment. But.... Here's the other: We have been to St. Thomas 6 or 7 times and only once did he back into the dock. So, if I was a betting man, (and I am;) ) and wanted to know which side of the ship to book so I could see the bay while at dock, I'd book the Port Side. Hope This Helps. cb at sea Posted August 11, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2007 When we were in St, Thomas, the ship "parallel parked" with the starboard (right) side to the dock!
KC_fn Posted August 11, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2007 We cruised this itinerary a month ago, and port side was better for both St Thomas and St Maarten.
adjournthis120 Posted August 11, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2007 Capt. Johnny pulled in when we were there last Fall. Starboard had the view of the pier and some nearby hills, but from our portside view, we could see beautiful Charlotte Amalie and the bay. That was the money view, so I would bet on port, too!! Bakincakes Posted August 11, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 11, 2007 All you would have to do is book two rooms each on opposite sides of the ship. That way you could just run from one to the other and decide which view was best at any given time.;)
jules815 Posted August 11, 2007 #7 Share Posted August 11, 2007 We had beautiful views in both St. Thomas and St. Maarten from the port side.
