suzyluvs2cruise Posted August 23, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Not sure if this has been asked before. Will be on the Sernade of the Seas Hawaii cruise and want to rent a car in Maui on Oct 11 to do the Road to Hana. Checked with Alamo and they close at 5:30 at the JHM location. Have a couple of questions. 1. Would we be able to pick up a car by 9:00 am considering the ship tenders? 2. With a few stops is it is possible to do the trip and be back to Alamo by 5:30? 3. Does Alamo have a shuttle back to the pier and, if so, what time does that stop? 4. Any other suggestions for a 1 day rental with a later drop off time and a way to get back to the ship? Our car of choice is a convertible. Thanks, Sue
Splinter Posted August 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2004 1. Would we be able to pick up a car by 9:00 am considering the ship tenders? I would plan more on 9:30 or 10:00AM by the time you get off the ship, catch the shuttle, and get to the airport to pick up the car. 2. With a few stops is it is possible to do the trip and be back to Alamo by 5:30? 3. Does Alamo have a shuttle back to the pier and, if so, what time does that stop? The airport office closes at 5:30 PM, but the last shuttle is at 3:30. They don't tell you this ahead of time, but there is no problem with you dropping off the car at their office later than 5:30 as long as you are pre-paid. They have a drop slot for the keys. We did this our last trip. They cannot provide a shuttle then, but will give you the name and number of a cab company that will take you back to the cruise pier for about $15. We gassed up the car a block from the office, called the cab from there, and were quickly back in Lahaina well after 6:00 PM for dinner before going back to the ship. 4. Any other suggestions for a 1 day rental with a later drop off time and a way to get back to the ship? Our car of choice is a convertible. See above. Just be aware that you may get some rain on the Hana road. It is on the "wet" side of the island. Even with multiple stops for photos and to see the falls, we had no problem doing this drive in 8 hours round trip, including a nice picnic for lunch (stop in Paia to buy food on your way).
