TMI (too much info)?

I agree. Whatever happened to being surprised about things? It is called a vacation for a reason. You let things happen as they do. Sure you need to do a little planning but to plan to the last detail is too much. Plus a lot of these questions, require answers that are subjective.....like itenary, what to order, etc. You never know what you may find if left to your own devices. I remember when I was in Paris and there was a building with a golden round dome. I had no idea what it was so I went to investigate. Turned out to be Napaleon's tomb. At the time, I could have cared less about knowing about him and his coffins. Yet after going through the building and learning what a "different type of person" he was, I started reading about him.

With each vacation, I plan a little but am also very open to being surprised. I don't want to plan my vacation to the detail. Heck I do that enough at home and at work.

some of my favorite questions i have seen (my smart#@! answers follow)

1) how high will the seas be? (as high as they want to be) to which the follow up question was "will I feel the sea moving" (well either that or the ship..take your pick)

2) does alaska accept u.s. money? (no you have to find a currency exchange)

3) oh wow........i can eat at the buffet before my 800 seating? (that's a lot of eating)

4) on the bear excursion, how do they get the bears out there when we come? (ahhhhhhhhhhh they arrange the time with their travel agent duh!)

5) why didnt i see whales, dolphins, seals, etc?? (what? you didn't let you know you were coming)

6) i think my favorite..."Will I get seasick" (no reply to that one LOL)

Things to say on a cruise.

Is the toilet water salt water? (Mmmmm let me know).

Why do you have to put the toilet seat down before you flush (is the suction REALLY that strong?)

I wonder if they'll put the wave machine on in the pool today.

I have to go- will try to think of more. (that's not one - it's my reason for stopping. LOL

Here is a new one I have never heard. I was right below this thread.

Dress codes for an infant?

Hello! We are leaving this Saturday for our first cruise as a family. My son will be 13 months old next week. I know there's a dress code during dinner and formal nights for adults but it the dress code also mandatory for infants??

  • 4 weeks later...

I am a first timer and for me asking the questions are more so apart of trying to plan, I mean I want to know like the comparisons and photos of resorts or things to do, the food and all that I dont care i mean its eat all u want and its free really nothing that u need to know to me.. the drinks and things i think its so much as in trying to figure out about how much in reality money will u need to bring along. the pictures of the ship and staterooms for me makes it more exciting cause until you actually leave it gives you something to look forward to.. Just makes it more exciting, But thats just me and my opinion.. now after the first one of course then it will be more of a comparison thing to find out info..

LMAO!! Too funny!

I like all the researching and anticipation. What I have been learning on this board while I plan our first RCI cruise has greatly influenced where I book, how I book and which cabin. Posts here made me think of things I hadn't thought of and I hadn't realized about the perks you can get by using online TA's such as prepaid grats or OBCs. You rarely see this with Aussie online TAs and if you do, it will be last minute specials which don't work when you also have to get air from Australia to the USA, hotels, time off work, etc.

 As a 1st time cruiser, I truly appreciate all the questions and comments...not because I don't looking forward to all the surprises when we actually board the ship, but because every little bit helps me to prepare for and anticipate the experience. I don't want to be juggling power outlets so I can use by curling iron and miss out on a cruise activity.

So bring it all on....I'll pick and choose and appreciate every comment and every giggle. Thanks to all!:)

While this may be the funniest thread I have read on CC, I have to go.

I am an Oklahoma Sooner fan and just know that Oregon guy has someone who is going to screw everything up like his replay judge did last year! LOL!!

Sorry, i can't contribute any funny anecdote since my first cruise isn't until next March.

I can't wait to see someone coming on the boat with a three ring binder of all the recommendations from everyone on the CC boards though!

I've actually read threads where people are doing just that....and others think it is a great idea

I'm guilty of being a mega planner, until we walk out the door. I make lists for packing, lists for emergency info, lists of what to take care of before we leave, but the lists stay at home. The only papers we take with us are the important ones, the ones that get us on the plane, ship, excursion, etc.... If I have info from a travel guide I copy the page and leave the book at home.

Our very first cruise I had the idea we would do all these planned things, other than our purchased excursions none of it happened. No one wanted to do those things when we got there. It was a great learning experience for me: don't plan every minute of the day or you will be disappointed.

One thing I find amusing is how many people want copies of the daily newsletter from the cruise ship. I see links to them and ship menus all the time. I suppose it's because when we're on the ship, we decide what to do then, it's not a concern to us before hand. We also leave all that paper behind, we don't need it after returning home. I just don't consider these papers as souvenirs and I have enough clutter in the house already ;)

But for first time cruisers, I can sort of see why it would be exciting for them.

I will be traveling with my three teenagers ages 12, 15, and 18. We are going on a 4 night cruise to the bahamas. My DS and I are planning on doing a few shore excursions, however, my 2 DDs want to stay back on the ship and relax by the pool alone (do ya think this is safe)? I don't like to gamble too much in the casino but if I try it, I may get carried away and throw more money than I originally inteneded. My DDs and I like the specialty restaurants, but my DS is picky and will only eat at the buffet. If he eats at the buffet every night, do I need to tip the formal dining staff? Oh, and then there is Bingo...I may play 1 or 2 games. As for spa treatments, I may have a massage, but my children will not be using the spa whatsover. My son needs a soda card and maybe one for my younger DD...or can they just share one? Alcohol....hmmmm I don't drink TOO MUCH, but if I am having a really good time, I have been known to drink until I pass out on the floor...oh and maybe I will allow my DD (age 18) to sneak a few beers every now and then...after all, she IS old enough to serve our country at war! OH I AM SOOO CONFUSED!!! How much will I need to bring?!? :D
