OldCodger73 Posted September 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2007 There was a thread about a B-t-B Maasdam cruise recently that raised a question in my mind. Is there a discount for a back-to-back as compared to the price of the two segments taken separately?
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2007 I was looking at HAL's website a while back, and I noticed that there was about a $100 savings if you booked the back-to-back cruises as one cruise. We prefer to book our's separately because of the shipboard credit. We do AMEX Plat one cruise and CCL stock the other cruise. The two cannot be combined. sail7seas Posted September 9, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2007 We always book as two different cruises, as well. We also take advantage of the AmEx Shipboard Credit but as importantly, in the event we should have to cancel one cruise, we would still have the option of taking the other cruise. With one confirmation number, we would have to cancel the whole trip. It has never happened but who knows? It could.
cruznon Posted September 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2007 That's really interesting info. When we did our recent B2B, DH booked directly with HAL, we were given two different booking numbers, two sets of tickets, etc. I just assumed it was always done that. I appreciate the info for future cruises.
kakalina Posted September 9, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Every so often HAL will put two 7 days together and offer them at a better price than the seperate cruises. An example would be the "sunfarer special" offered in the Caribbean cruises. We have done quite a few b2b's and just love them.
sail7seas Posted September 9, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2007 We've done the Sunfarer/Wayfarers for years but can't do them back-to-back as we can't be away 20 days. Aren't they ten day cruises? Or is it some other cruise you are mentioning?
maxout Posted September 9, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Sail, I believe they are speaking to the "20-Day Seafarer & Wayfarer combination." Both as you said, are 10-day itineraries combined. Map is a link....
sail7seas Posted September 9, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Thanks. What confused me was when she said they 'put two 7 dayers together' and called it a sunfarer special.
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 9, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 9, 2007 It looks like there is going to be a couple of ships with 2 different ten day itineraries in 2009. That makes for a nice vacation.
RevNeal Posted September 9, 2007 #10 Share Posted September 9, 2007 It can vary; sometimes it's just a hundred or so per-person, other times it can be up to 10% or 20% if there's a special promotion. For instance, HAL just ran a promo (I think it's still in place) for the Eurodam's Inaugural cruises: if you do the first two 10-day cruises b2b in the same cabin you can receive a 10% discount off on both cruises. Fblack Posted September 9, 2007 #11 Share Posted September 9, 2007 I booked b2b cruises on the Westerdam for 9/25/2007. I got a 10% discount. I also booked them with two booking numbers so I can get Shareholder credit based on two cruises. That was another $350 credit.

jer_l Posted September 10, 2007 #13 Share Posted September 10, 2007 We booked a 14 day Alaska cruise for next June on the Veendam. The cost of booking it as a single fourteen-day cruise was 2/3 the cost of booking it as two separate 7-day cruises. ;)
