Freebies!

21 days free cruising on Summit B2B (10 + 11 days) when our B2B Infinity cruise to Hawaii was cancelled three days before sail date.

I've been hoping to win that lottery again..

(I guess that is a sore point for many other cruisers affected by the same "sticky" problem.)

On a Captain's Club reunion cruise November 2005, Celebrity gave us a free tour of a coffee plantation in Mexico and feted the top 6 cruising couples in the specialty dining room. We hope a repeat of that treatment will occur on our Summit reunion cruise to Hawaii on the 28th of September.. plus all the goodies that were placed in our cabin almost every evening.:D

Hi Arno:) they gave you an evening at the Specialty Restaurant?

How nice, especially since you and Joanne just about live on board;)

60 cruises right? I would think a freebie is definitely in order for you.

Remember folks that is NOT a one time offer - we get anywhere between 100 - 200 every time we cruise

So the saying goes,"you have to spend money to get money",,,great to be able to buy stock, what about the people who don't dabble in the market:rolleyes: ...Being Elite onX,made us Diamond on RCC,,,we get $$$$off our cabin without buying stock,,,so your point is????:(

Celebrity gave us our Dec 16th cruise for free. A replacement for 12/10/06. And believe me, I am very grateful.
Got that as well and on our last cruise on the Century got a shoe fixed for free and got a hanging bag for free (since I don't use wire hangers it's not exactly useful).

Investing in the market is not considered "spending money". The shipboard credit is in addition to any discount you might receive for being Elite or Diamond. So you get both. It's a wonderful benefit.

But if you don't like the market, think about the Celebrity credit card. I get tons of shipboard credit from that. It doesn't cost a penny.

Were you also on the 12/10? I see you are also on the 12/16 as we are. :). You didn't do the 12/11/06 Century by any chance? THAT would be a small world!

I think his point is its an on board account credit - i.e. cash since you can withdraw cash from the casino that goes against your on board account (or use the credits in other ways). You still get the Elite/Diamond (or whatever applies) discounts.

If you had purchased the stock (and not at the highest price) prior to your 10 X cruises needed for Elite, you would have received a return on your investment of at least $1,000 tax free and continue to collect the same amount (from $50 to $250) every time you cruise on X or RCI. You don't have to dabble. When your cruising days are over you just sell your stock. Carnival does not have the same bonus if you get any other type of credit as well.

..and your $ off the cabin requires you to buy a certain category does it not??

you can get the discount and the stock credit and the on board booking credit..

Once you buy the stock - Who do you communicate with about receiving the obc?

Must buy a minimum of 100 shares RCL and own the stock at time of booking. Send to Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Investor Benefit,k P. O. Box 025511, Miami, FL 33102-5511 (or send in a single fax to 305-539-4645) the following documentation:

  • photocopy of your shareholder proxy or current brokerage statement
  • your name (the owner of the shares will receive the credit)
  • your home address, telephone number and e-mail address
  • your ship and sailing date
  • your confirmation number
  • your Captain's Club or Crown & Anchor Society number (if any)

You will receive:

  • $250 obc per stateroom on sailings of 14 or more nights
  • $200 obc on sailings of 9-13 nights
  • $100 obc on sailings of 6-8 nights
  • $50 obc on sailings of 5 nights or less

We have received this obc for our past 4 sailings and look forward to a $250 obc for an upcoming 16 night TA in the spring. I think this is a good time to buy the stock - "buy low" and hold. It will pay you back time and again, not to mention that you will receive yearly dividends also.

Happy sailing to all. :)

Must buy a minimum of 100 shares RCL and own the stock at time of booking.

The RCCL website says you must own the stock at the time of sailing, not booking. I hope that's true, because we have already booked but haven't sailed, and I just asked my DH to put in a buy order.

GRBlizz, if your planning on buying RCCL stock, you may not want to wait much longer. It's near the 52 week low. The winter season is when this stock normally goes up. Just a heads up.

Thanks! I looked at the 5-year trend, and darned if you're not right. Clear seasonality in the prices. Hubby, who manages our investments, is not enamored with the sector, but he agreed to my getting 100 shares to play with. Most of the stuff he buys is not in interesting businesses! Thanks for the heads up.

I was quoting from a printed sheet sent to me by Royal Caribbean Cruises - however, if my memory serves me, I believe the first time we got this obc we had booked, but not yet sailed. You might call Celebrity to verify.

If you continue to cruise with Celebrity and/or RCL, I think your DH will be happy with your "investment" choice.

When I first told a fellow cruiser about this , he purchased the shares while on board (a Galaxy TA) and he still got the credit..

.. we've used the credit more than 20 times already so my stock is technically free.

Unfortunately I bought the stock with Canadian dollars when the premium was 40% and it's now almost at par. That's a hefty decline when the US$ is sinking faster than the Titanic:eek:... but then all my cruises are now 40% cheaper than 5 years ago :D

GEBlizz, thanks for the the thank you, it's fun to be right. lol We originally bought 150 shares and use the 50 extra shares to sell and buy seasonlly. It's worked fairly well for us. I know 50 shares is small potatoes but it sure has helped pay for the original outlay. It almost feels like insider trading the way this stock sesonally fluxuates.

I remember that sailing because I was on the one after you.

(12-17-06).

So the best way to receive a free cruise is to book one,

hope it gets cancelled within 2 weeks of sailing, get a full

refund AND a future free cruise:D :) ;)

I am just kidding folks!....Just TEASING!!!!:D

How about the little freebies? I am not an experienced cruiser yet, but perusing the boards so far I see something about getting lanyards for your ship card in the casino and a deck of cards from the purser, but possibly these don't apply to Celebrity.

I am already booked for May 2008 to alaska.

What other onboard doo-dads and freebies should I look out for?

besides buffets, of course.

Actually, that is one of the best of the many good tips I have gotten on here. Even my TA mother didn't know about the OBC for shareholders. We are cruising X next summer, and we both plan to add RCL to our portfolios when the time comes. Unless the stock has a very bad couple of months, it's a good deal!

I LOVE this idea and hope to be able to take advantage of it for our 10/22 Century sailing--but who do I call??? How do I do it???

Thanks,

Cathy

Thanks for the tip. I phoned my broker today and bought 100 shares at 36.44 which is near a recent low. My broker and *Morningstar* has a current buy rating on RCL. We are on the 9/28, 14 day Summitt to Hawaii, so we should get a $250 OBC. Can anyone tell me what, if any, restrictions apply to using the on board credits

None.

You can take your money out at the casino if you want the cash, you can use it to buy wine on board, pay tips or excursions.. It's as good as cash.

We use ours the same way... I should say my DW withdraws and uses it in the casino.

We have cruised on Celebrity for the past several cruises but started out on RCCL and are doing our next cruise so we are both Diamond and Elite. Having said that - purchasing 100 shares of stock several years ago was better than investing in a CD and the $100 - 200 or more is just another perk added to dollars off - heck I may get a free cruise with all the OBC's
