AtMaui Posted September 19, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2007 I just signed up for the 10/29/07 cruise on the Mercury for 4 days out of Seattle. This is my first time on Celebrity (I'm usually on Regent) and my first time cruising as a single. Any tips I need to know about the Mercury? Is anyone else out there planning to be on this cruise? Below are two links to roll calls for your particular cruise. Usually there are only one but for some reason on this cruise they weren't merged. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=550281 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=609815
caviargal Posted September 19, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2007 Regent provided my best two cruising experiences ever! I would suggest you not compare the two too much and just enjoy Mercury for what it offers. A ship that is classic, not too large, and what I would describe as cozy feeling overall. The fixed dining will be a definite difference for you and I suggest you book a large table if you have not already done so. The Martini Bar is popular and gets crowded early and is a great place for a before dinner drink and some conversation. Check out the roll call links provided and make friends before you board. Hopefully, Lois will join this thread as she loves the Mercury and has cruised solo aboard with 2 more scheduled. I am certain she can give you great advice. Have a great cruise!:)
curiouscat Posted September 19, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2007 Ouch, If you go in w/ expectations of a mass market line vs boutique sailing you'll be ok... Get a large table for dining and go along w/ the flow and I'm sure you'll enjoy... Just try not to compare... each ship has it's own style... But it's hard going from the Mandarin Oriental to Sheraton/Marriott:D CuriousCat
Rare Lois R Posted September 20, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Hi:) I have never sailed a "luxury line" so I cannot tell you what you will miss. I will be on board 2 weeks before you and yes, I have sailed Mercury 3 times...I am going again for a 3&4 nighter. She is one of my favorite ships.:) And I sail solo 99% of the time. Caviargal gave you good advice. I always request a large table as that is a great way to meet other passengers. From what I gather, Regent is probably much more upscale than Celebrity but after 11 cruises I love X. Hope I don't have to run for cover for that comment;) Maybe one day I will be able to try Regent or Crystal or one of the other high end lines but until then I am always happy on a Celebrity ship:) If you have any questions I will be glad to try and answer them.
