Shopping Bags

Just curious. When we went on our only other HAL cruise to Alaska in 2001, before the first port day we had left in our cabin really sturdy HAL shopping bags. 6 years on I am still using it. Do they still do this?

Yes - HAL still gives a canvas bag for each cabin before the first port day. I have a ton of them.

I also saved some. Most people I saw used them as beach bags. It's one less thing to pack and good advertising for HAL.

I still have mine too! I use one as my bingo bag. The bag never seems to wear out.

On a couple of our back-to-back cruises, we got a dark blue water proof bag which is really great for the pool area and to take to the beach.

I have some that go back decades. They don't seem to ever wear out. I use them for groceries -- saves using plastic bags.

We got the blue waterproof one this summer on Maasdam. It's great.

 

It's not the same as the dark blue one they used to give that had the pocket...it was a different vinyl than this new version but I like it's waterproof. I like the older ones better though. ;)

Do you have to be a Mariner to get these? We sailed on the Zaandam in '04 and never received anything like this

We never got them on our first (and only) HAL cruise on Volendam in 2005

We got those small burlap type ones just recently on the Noordam. I thought that was a nice little touch.

In the past we got the canvas ones while on board. This year we haven't sailed yet and our TA has already sent us one of the blue bags. We sail 12/2. So, I guess I won't be greedy and expect one on board. I just wish they were a little bigger.

You should have gotten one. All cabins get one (one per cabin) no matter wheather you are a past passenger or not.

Your cabin steward has no idea if your TA has already given you one. So you should get another one.

Thanks for all the info...I'm glad we may still get them next year...or something anyway. When we cruised to Alaska we actually got 3 as we had our 2 teenage boys sharing our cabin, so they got one each also. We are doing a back to back in the Mediterranean in Sept next year so maybe we will get the blue ones too!!
