Is the casino open on 4 night PNW cruise?

My traveling companions and I would really like to see the casino open while we take a four-night round trip cruise to Canada from Seattle on the Mercury next month. Can anyone just back tell me when / if it will be open?

Thank you.

You have to be in International Waters for the Casino to Operate...Nanaimo to Victoria you never leave Canadian Waters.

Maybe someone who has knowledge of Maritime Law can explain since it may have nothing to do with being in International waters. I sailed on Celebrity out of Baltimore several years ago and the casino opened 15 minutes after we left Baltimore. We were'nt in International waters for at least 8 hours after that.

Are you sure? International Waters is usually only 3 miles off shore. You just don't get that between Nanaimo and Vancouver. You would off Baltimore.

Absolutely sure, I was in the casino 15 minutes after we left port and was completely surprised it was open. If you have ever taken a cruise out of Baltimore it is a long trip to the ocean. We didn't cross over the Cheaspeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel until about 12:30A.M. after leaving port at 4:30P.M. Virginia was a stones throw for most of that distance off both sides of the ship.

Probably the OPs question has more to do with Canadian Law but it would be interesting to have someone familiar with the laws explain it.

Hi,

...but having just returned from the 09/21 Mercury sailing, the closure of the shops made perfect sense to me.

This being a very short cruise, with less than 100 nautical miles between the ports of Victoria and Nanaimo, to open the shops would have been in direct competition with local merchants. The shops were open on Friday and Sunday evenings. So, I'm not sure whether it has to do with Int'l/Maritime law, or (in this case) is an agreement ships have with local tourism. Just a thought.

As to the casino, one of our group was VERY lucky. She put in $1.50 in a quarter machine and won $1000.
