ezcheezy Posted October 4, 2007 #26 Share Posted October 4, 2007 Drew and EE, Thank you for the speedy replies! So glad to know there are umbrellas. I can't believe how many shoes I'm taking on a 3 day cruise and not bringing umbrellas frees up some space. Let's see, dancing shoes, tennis shoes, boots, flip-flops, comfortable shoes a step up from tennis shoes.
travlr21 Posted October 4, 2007 #27 Share Posted October 4, 2007 Hi. We were on the same cruise as you. Great review, we enjoyed ourselves and thought the food was great, lots of selection. We were there to join other walkers, we got soaked in both Vancouver and Nanaimo. But, we were so busy enjoying the sights and meeting new friends on the walks, it was not a problem. One thing, though. We parked across the street from the peir and dragged our luggage to the ship. It occurred to me that when we were handed our champagne, we harldy had a free hand to take it. Very surprised that the luggage was not taken from us at some point and taken to our cabin, as has been the case on other cruises.
Jukebox Eddie Posted October 5, 2007 #28 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Hey everybody, We did this cruise last year, and enjoyed it so much, that we are getting back on next week! We parked across the street, and its a breeze, the valets take your luggage, so you can stroll across the bridge, and your there! Even if it does rain for 3 days, who cares? I found the service to be excellent, food was good, casino was OK, and I had a wonderful time. This is our 15th cruise, and we are bringing along some friends, VIRGINS, (uh,to cruiseships) so, it should be a wonderful trip!
avalon1025 Posted October 5, 2007 #29 Share Posted October 5, 2007 currently on the mercury, crew are great, very happy. Ship is lovely, though exterior maintenance could be improved (worn decks, missing pool tiles, etc)
gillianrose Posted October 6, 2007 #30 Share Posted October 6, 2007 There is an indoor pool in the back, but surrounded by lunch tables. When we cruised on the Mercury, the indoor pool was surrounded by loungers, and then on the perimeter of that area there were tables. Are the loungers surrounding the small pool gone? That was our favorite place to relax.
Drew B Posted October 6, 2007 #31 Share Posted October 6, 2007 There are loungers. Just one row (maybe a dozen in all).
gillianrose Posted October 6, 2007 #32 Share Posted October 6, 2007 There are loungers. Just one row (maybe a dozen in all). Whew! Thank you for the update, Drew. I'm glad the loungers are still there, though I think there were somewhat more than a dozen when we were aboard.
Drew B Posted October 6, 2007 #33 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Whew! Thank you for the update, Drew. I'm glad the loungers are still there, though I think there were somewhat more than a dozen when we were aboard. I may not be good at estimating. It was definitely less than 2 dozen. Maybe somewhere in between.
LovetheSea Posted October 6, 2007 #34 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Great mini review. We will be on the Mercury for the 7th time on Monday for a four nighter. I just have a few questions, if you don't mind? Were the outside pools heated? Do they still have the homemade breadsticks at dinner?
shawn&angie Posted October 6, 2007 #35 Share Posted October 6, 2007 I was also wondering if the outside pools were heated...I would suspect not but was wondering all the same.
janabelle61 Posted October 6, 2007 #36 Share Posted October 6, 2007 We used the parking garage across from the pier and it was great. When we arrived (10:40am) we drove right in, turned over our car to valet, gave our luggage to the attendant and took the skybridge to the port. On debarkation day, we left the ship at 9:20am, headed for the garage, paid our fee ($48), waited about 5-7 minutes for our car, hopped in and were out of the garage within 10 minutes. It was extremely efficient and well organized. Eeyoregon - I was interested in your comments about the parking garage. We sailed the weekend before you and had the same wonderful experience on embarkation day, but debarkation was a disaster. Everything was terribly disorganized, with no indication (signs/people) of where one should go to pay/retrieve their vehicle. Honestly, it was so bad we were trapped on the elevator due to the crowds of people. Is it possible that they improved things?! I truly hope so. The parking garage is so convenient, but when we left we swore never to use it again. I'm not trying to flame the parking garage - just really curious if they implemented some new procedures.
momthecruisedirector Posted October 7, 2007 Author #37 Share Posted October 7, 2007 I don't think the pools were heated - they were certainly empty on our blustery cruise. The breadsticks at dinner were wonderful. I never got a chance to try any of the other bread at dinner because they were so good. We watched the Mercury sail out last night....what a pretty sight. Can't wait to read the review of this past weeks cruise.
