All things Monarch of the Seas

Recommended Posts

we just got off the Monarch last friday. we had a blast! it was our first cruise and it's our "home" ship. we were in room 8558 and my DD room was 8560 (next to us) our room was great! bed was so comfy, I never leave home w/ out my pillow but I didn't use it at ALL!

the first night we didn't get any towel animals (b/c he was busy with luggage) it didn't bother me b/c I knew the next night we would. (rabbit holding our remote control)

we only dined in the main dining room one night. windjammer the other days. coffee is horrible! I bought mine every morning on level 4 cost $2.00 including tip. it was worth it! my family had tea, juice and water. the next time I will bring my own coffee. lol

they is so much activites going on that I had to set my alarm to be sure not to miss any.

one person stands out over everyone else his name is Leandro "Greeter" for windjammer. he was a great personality and gave us great tips on excursion etc... we gave him a big tip.

we are booking for next yr on the same ship.:)

Hi,

We booked a GOV room yesterday for the 6/14/10 4 day cruise to the Bahamas and today, when I received an email from TA it had website to get contract etc. I noticed a room had already been assigned to us (room 2144!). I thought when you booked a guarantee room, that would be assigned to you when you board the vessel. We are shareholders as well as Diamond Members and think this room stinks! Never been on such a low deck before, any thoughts from anyone? Thanks.

Guarantee staterooms can be assigned at any time before the cruise leaves. As to the location, it's a gamble you take on by booking a guarantee. Sorry it didn't turn out to your satisfaction this time, but that's life.

Sailing on the monarch next week. First cruise without my son. I know its the sister ship to the Majesty. Is there a little cafe above the windjammer with sandwiches and fresh made crepes? One can hope :o

No, that's one of the differences between Monarch and Majesty. Majesty has Compass Deli and Johnny Rockets. Monarch has Jade Steak House and Sushi.

Was on the 8/13 sailing. Every night there was a $14.50 steak in the MDR menu. Jade had "hot rock" cooking and advertised steaks too. Never made it up there so not sure about cuts and quality.

We've been to Jade 3 times and have enjoyed the steak each time. It seems to be a very good cut of beef, well worth the $7 for the small fillet and $12 for the large fillet.

Thanks for that lifeboat obstructng cabin information.

I also want to add to make sure that you do not book the inside cabins on deck 2 which are directly underneath the centrium. You'll hear music all night long, your ceiling will vibrate, and you'll go out of your mind!

we are booked for our first cruise on monarch of the seas. we have room 2588 on deck 2. do you think that's okay.

The area above the Windjammer on Monarch is Sorentos.

Is there a captain's reception on the 3 night? If so, is EVERYONE invited or is it for certain guests? Seems like a lot of free booze if so!!!

Yes, the Captain's reception is on day 2, Saturday night. Everyone is invited.

Any perks for platinum on the monarch?

Used to be that Platinum and better would get an invitation to a really pleasant C&A function in Viking Crown, Saturday morning at about 10:45am. This coincided with Monarch entering Nassau harbor, rotating 180 degrees, and backing into her berth. Last July however, that function was opened to all C&A, and moved to Circuit because of the increased attendance. It's still very nice party, but I missed the view from Viking Crown. Please let us know what they do for you.

You will also get priority departure, and your waiting area will be one of the conference rooms.

Bob

Going out on 12/13. Has anyone been on recently that can tell me about the casino, specifically the slots. I like to play pennies. Usually have a major problem with smoke in the casino, on the Mariner and Navigator I couldn't play for more than 10 minutes when the casino first opened, then it got too bad. How bad is the Monarch?? Was spoiled on the Rhapsody, 100% smoke free and the Oasis, half is non smoking and well separated from smoking. thanks for info. Trying to decide how much to budget for slots :)

I absolutely hate smoke (it kills my sinuses) and to be honest, this past cruise, I kept thinking the casino must've been non-smoking because I didn't smell a thing. But I'm sure it can vary by cruise. Must've just had mostly non-smokers on ours :D

Unfortunately – the smoking does vary cruise to cruise. There is a very small non smoking slot area, but folks were smoking there also. A few weeks ago, we played a particular bank of machines, and there were 2 very heavy smokers playing the same area. I don’t smoke but understand and certainly accept that smoking is allowed. We generally take a walk outside, after being in the casino, to try to get the smoke out of clothes. I am a believer of “Fabreeze”. Never travel to a casino without it!

Hit a nice progressive jackpot ($691.82) on one of the 30 line penny slots near the card tables. I was playing 30 cents per line, hit a random “luxury” bonus then hit the progressive jackpot. I had only put $25 in so it was lots of fun! Luckily we only gave the $91 back in future playing and took home the 6-$100 bills!
I'm still adjusting back to normal life, give me a bit... I actually had to COOK FOR MYSELF last night! You'll get your review... :p
Oooh, if you have your daily Compass, or any menus, I'd love to see them! We're headed out for a 4 day in October.

Thanks!
